What is CVE-2001-1244?
CVE-2001-1244 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Freebsd Freebsd, published on 3 May 2002. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Official description
Multiple TCP implementations could allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (bandwidth and CPU exhaustion) by setting the maximum segment size (MSS) to a very small number and requesting large amounts of data, which generates more packets with less TCP-level data that amplify network traffic and consume more server CPU to process.
Which versions are affected by CVE-2001-1244?
It affects 9 products.
Products include Freebsd Freebsd, Hp Hp-Ux, Hp Vvos, Linux kernel, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows Nt and 3 more.
How do I fix CVE-2001-1244?
No fix has been published for CVE-2001-1244 yet. Limit exposure of the affected software until one is available.
Upgrade, then put limits on request size, rate and nesting depth so one client cannot exhaust the service. More about Denial of service.
Is CVE-2001-1244 being exploited?
It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2001-1244 exists.
Public exploit code: 1 Exploit-DB entry.
