## What is CVE-2010-2008?

CVE-2010-2008 is a low-severity path traversal vulnerability in Canonical Ubuntu Linux, published on 13 Jul 2010. An attacker needs administrator access to exploit it, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

MySQL before 5.1.48 allows remote authenticated users with alter database privileges to cause a denial of service (server crash and database loss) via an ALTER DATABASE command with a #mysql50# string followed by a . (dot), .. (dot dot), ../ (dot dot slash) or similar sequence, and an UPGRADE DATA DIRECTORY NAME command, which causes MySQL to move certain directories to the server data directory.

Weakness: CWE-77 (Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in a Command)

## Which versions are affected by CVE-2010-2008?

It affects 3 products.

Products: Canonical Ubuntu Linux, Fedoraproject Fedora, Oracle Mysql.

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2010-2008 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2010-2008 is a low-severity path traversal vulnerability in Canonical Ubuntu Linux, published on 13 Jul 2010. An attacker needs administrator access to exploit it, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2010-2008 exists.
Affected product: Canonical Ubuntu Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
