What is CVE-2015-1788?
CVE-2015-1788 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Openssl Openssl, published on 12 Jun 2015. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Official description
The BN_GF2m_mod_inv function in crypto/bn/bn_gf2m.c in OpenSSL before 0.9.8s, 1.0.0 before 1.0.0e, 1.0.1 before 1.0.1n, and 1.0.2 before 1.0.2b does not properly handle ECParameters structures in which the curve is over a malformed binary polynomial field, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a session that uses an Elliptic Curve algorithm, as demonstrated by an attack against a server that supports client authentication.
Weakness: CWE-399
Which versions are affected by CVE-2015-1788?
It affects 1 product.
Products include Openssl Openssl.
How do I fix CVE-2015-1788?
Upgrade to a fixed version.
Upgrade, then put limits on request size, rate and nesting depth so one client cannot exhaust the service. More about Denial of service.
Is CVE-2015-1788 being exploited?
There is no known exploitation of CVE-2015-1788 in the wild and no public exploit code.
