What is CVE-2017-1000353?
CVE-2017-1000353 is a critical unsafe deserialization vulnerability in Jenkins Jenkins, published on 29 Jan 2018. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Official description
Jenkins versions 2.56 and earlier as well as 2.46.1 LTS and earlier are vulnerable to an unauthenticated remote code execution. An unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability allowed attackers to transfer a serialized Java `SignedObject` object to the Jenkins CLI, that would be deserialized using a new `ObjectInputStream`, bypassing the existing blacklist-based protection mechanism. We're fixing this issue by adding `SignedObject` to the blacklist. We're also backporting the new HTTP CLI protocol from Jenkins 2.54 to LTS 2.46.2, and deprecating the remoting-based (i.e. Java serialization) CLI protocol, disabling it by default.
Weakness: CWE-502

How do I fix CVE-2017-1000353?
Upgrade org.jenkins-ci.main:jenkins-core to a fixed version for your release line: 2.46.2 or 2.57. US federal agencies must fix it by 23 Oct 2025.
Upgrade, and only deserialise data from trusted sources or with an allow-list of types. More about Unsafe deserialization.
Is CVE-2017-1000353 being exploited?
Yes. Attackers have exploited CVE-2017-1000353 in the wild since at least 2 Oct 2025.
Public exploit code: 1 Metasploit module, 1 Exploit-DB entry and 2 proofs of concept on GitHub.
