## What is CVE-2017-6615?

CVE-2017-6615 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Cisco Ios Xe, published on 20 Apr 2017. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

A vulnerability in the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) subsystem of Cisco IOS XE 3.16 could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to a race condition that could occur when the affected software processes an SNMP read request that contains certain criteria for a specific object ID (OID) and an active crypto session is disconnected on an affected device. An attacker who can authenticate to an affected device could trigger this vulnerability by issuing an SNMP request for a specific OID on the device. A successful exploit will cause the device to restart due to an attempt to access an invalid memory region. The attacker does not control how or when crypto sessions are disconnected on the device. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvb94392.

Weakness: CWE-362 (Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization), CWE-125 (Out-of-bounds Read), CWE-399

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2017-6615 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2017-6615 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Cisco Ios Xe, published on 20 Apr 2017. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2017-6615 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Cisco Ios Xe. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
