It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2017-8416 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: n/a. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2017-8416/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2017-8416/index.md)","id":"CVE-2017-8416","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2017-8416/index.md","name":"CVE-2017-8416","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-6vwv-j2qw-r62r"],"analysis":{"component_type":"iot_embedded","fix_type":"no_fix_stated","impacts":["code_execution"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"D-Link IP camera","requires_auth":"none","summary":"Unauthenticated remote attackers can execute arbitrary code on D-Link cameras via a stack buffer overflow in the UDP discovery daemon.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"memory_corruption"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"mitre","cpe":[{"product":"dcs-1100_firmware","vendor":"dlink"},{"product":"dcs-1130_firmware","vendor":"dlink"}],"cvss":{"score":8.8,"severity":"high","source":"nvd","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-119","name":"Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer"}],"description":"An issue was discovered on D-Link DCS-1100 and DCS-1130 devices. The device runs a custom daemon on UDP port 5978 which is called \"dldps2121\" and listens for broadcast packets sent on 255.255.255.255. This daemon handles custom D-Link UDP based protocol that allows D-Link mobile applications and desktop applications to discover D-Link devices on the local network. The binary processes the received UDP packets sent from any device in \"main\" function. One path in the function traverses towards a block of code that processing of packets which does an unbounded copy operation which allows to overflow the buffer. The custom protocol created by Dlink follows the following pattern: Packetlen, Type of packet; M=MAC address of device or broadcast; D=Device Type;C=base64 encoded command string;test=1111 We can see at address function starting at address 0x0000DBF8 handles the entire UDP packet and performs an insecure copy using strcpy function at address 0x0000DC88. This results in overflowing the stack pointer after 1060 characters and thus allows to control the PC register and results in code execution. The same form of communication can be initiated by any process including an attacker process on the mobile phone or the desktop and this allows a third-party application on the device to execute commands on the device without any authentication by sending just 1 UDP packet with custom base64 encoding.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":null,"headline":"Memory corruption in n/a","id":"CVE-2017-8416","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"memory_corruption","year":"2017"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":3,"next":{"headline":"Auth bypass in n/a","id":"CVE-2017-8417"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"Hardcoded credentials in n/a","id":"CVE-2017-8415"},"products":["n/a"],"published":"2019-07-02","related":[{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Command injection in n/a","id":"CVE-2013-1599","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2020-01-28"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Memory corruption in n/a","id":"CVE-2017-8410","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2019-07-02"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Hardcoded credentials in n/a","id":"CVE-2017-8415","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2019-07-02"},{"cvss_score":8.8,"headline":"Memory corruption in n/a","id":"CVE-2017-8412","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2019-07-02"},{"cvss_score":8.8,"headline":"Command injection in n/a","id":"CVE-2017-8413","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2019-07-02"},{"cvss_score":8.8,"headline":"Auth bypass in n/a","id":"CVE-2017-8417","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2019-07-02"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-08-05","vendors":["n/a"]},"summary":"Unauthenticated remote attackers can execute arbitrary code on D-Link cameras via a stack buffer overflow in the UDP discovery daemon.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2017-8416/"}
