## What is CVE-2018-12536?

CVE-2018-12536 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Eclipse Jetty, published on 27 Jun 2018. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

In Eclipse Jetty Server, all 9.x versions, on webapps deployed using default Error Handling, when an intentionally bad query arrives that doesn't match a dynamic url-pattern, and is eventually handled by the DefaultServlet's static file serving, the bad characters can trigger a java.nio.file.InvalidPathException which includes the full path to the base resource directory that the DefaultServlet and/or webapp is using. If this InvalidPathException is then handled by the default Error Handler, the InvalidPathException message is included in the error response, revealing the full server path to the requesting system.

Weakness: CWE-209 (Generation of Error Message Containing Sensitive Information)

Check this codebase for CVE-2018-12536 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2018-12536 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Eclipse Jetty, published on 27 Jun 2018. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2018-12536 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected packages and fixed versions:
- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 9.0.0; fixed in 9.3.24.v20180605
- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 9.0.0; fixed in 9.3.24.v20180605
- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 9.4.0; fixed in 9.4.11.v20180605
- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 9.4.0; fixed in 9.4.11.v20180605

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
