## What is CVE-2019-11938?

CVE-2019-11938 is a high-severity denial of service vulnerability in Facebook Thrift, published on 10 Mar 2020. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

Java Facebook Thrift servers would not error upon receiving messages declaring containers of sizes larger than the payload. As a result, malicious clients could send short messages which would result in a large memory allocation, potentially leading to denial of service. This issue affects Facebook Thrift prior to v2019.12.09.00.

Weakness: CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling)

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2019-11938 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2019-11938 is a high-severity denial of service vulnerability in Facebook Thrift, published on 10 Mar 2020. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2019-11938 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Facebook Thrift. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
