## What is CVE-2019-12418?

CVE-2019-12418 is a high-severity vulnerability in Apache Tomcat, published on 23 Dec 2019. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

When Apache Tomcat 9.0.0.M1 to 9.0.28, 8.5.0 to 8.5.47, 7.0.0 and 7.0.97 is configured with the JMX Remote Lifecycle Listener, a local attacker without access to the Tomcat process or configuration files is able to manipulate the RMI registry to perform a man-in-the-middle attack to capture user names and passwords used to access the JMX interface. The attacker can then use these credentials to access the JMX interface and gain complete control over the Tomcat instance.

What it is: CVE-2019-12418 is a high-severity vulnerability in Apache Tomcat, published on 23 Dec 2019. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2019-12418 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected packages and fixed versions:
- org.apache.tomcat.embed:tomcat-embed-core (Maven): affected all versions; fixed in 7.0.99
- org.apache.tomcat.embed:tomcat-embed-core (Maven): affected all versions; fixed in 7.0.99
- org.apache.tomcat.embed:tomcat-embed-core (Maven): affected from 8.0.0; fixed in 8.5.49

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
