## What is CVE-2019-17563?

CVE-2019-17563 is a high-severity authentication bypass vulnerability in Apache Tomcat, published on 23 Dec 2019. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.

### Official description

When using FORM authentication with Apache Tomcat 9.0.0.M1 to 9.0.29, 8.5.0 to 8.5.49 and 7.0.0 to 7.0.98 there was a narrow window where an attacker could perform a session fixation attack. The window was considered too narrow for an exploit to be practical but, erring on the side of caution, this issue has been treated as a security vulnerability.

Weakness: CWE-384 (Session Fixation)

Check this codebase for CVE-2019-17563 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2019-17563 is a high-severity authentication bypass vulnerability in Apache Tomcat, published on 23 Dec 2019. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2019-17563 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected packages and fixed versions:
- org.apache.tomcat.embed:tomcat-embed-core (Maven): affected all versions; fixed in 7.0.99
- org.apache.tomcat.embed:tomcat-embed-core (Maven): affected all versions; fixed in 7.0.99
- org.apache.tomcat.embed:tomcat-embed-core (Maven): affected from 8.0.0; fixed in 8.5.50
- org.apache.tomcat.embed:tomcat-embed-core (Maven): affected from 8.0.0; fixed in 8.5.50

- org.apache.tomcat.embed:tomcat-embed-core (Maven): affected from 9.0.0; fixed in 9.0.30

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
