## What is CVE-2019-2956?

CVE-2019-2956 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Oracle Database Server, published on 16 Oct 2019. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.

### Official description

Vulnerability in the Core RDBMS (jackson-databind) component of Oracle Database Server. Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.0.2, 12.2.0.1, 18c and 19c. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows low privileged attacker having Create Session privilege with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Core RDBMS (jackson-databind). Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of Core RDBMS (jackson-databind). CVSS 3.0 Base Score 5.7 (Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2019-2956 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2019-2956 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Oracle Database Server, published on 16 Oct 2019. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2019-2956 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Oracle Database Server. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
