## What is CVE-2019-3900?

CVE-2019-3900 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Canonical Ubuntu Linux, published on 25 Apr 2019. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

An infinite loop issue was found in the vhost_net kernel module in Linux Kernel up to and including v5.1-rc6, while handling incoming packets in handle_rx(). It could occur if one end sends packets faster than the other end can process them. A guest user, maybe remote one, could use this flaw to stall the vhost_net kernel thread, resulting in a DoS scenario.

Weakness: CWE-835 (Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition)

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2019-3900 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2019-3900 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Canonical Ubuntu Linux, published on 25 Apr 2019. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2019-3900 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Canonical Ubuntu Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
