An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2020-10291 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: KUKA Roboter GmbH Visual Components Network License Server 2.0.8. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2020-10291/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2020-10291/index.md)","id":"CVE-2020-10291","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2020-10291/index.md","name":"CVE-2020-10291","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-x62p-fr54-qjpj"],"analysis":{"component_type":"server_software","fix_type":"no_fix_stated","impacts":["data_read"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"KUKA license server","requires_auth":"none","summary":"Unauthenticated attackers can query the KUKA Visual Components network license server to retrieve sensitive system and hardware information.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"information_disclosure"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Alias","cpe":[{"product":"visual_components_network_license_server","vendor":"kuka"}],"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","version":"3.0"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-306","name":"Missing Authentication for Critical Functionality"},{"id":"CWE-200","name":"Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor"}],"description":"Visual Components (owned by KUKA) is a robotic simulator that allows simulating factories and robots in order toimprove planning and decision-making processes. Visual Components software requires a special license which can beobtained from a network license server. The network license server binds to all interfaces (0.0.0.0) and listensfor packets over UDP port 5093. No authentication/authorization is required in order to communicate with theserver. The protocol being used is a property protocol by RMS Sentinel which provides the licensing infrastructurefor the network license server. RMS Sentinel license manager service exposes UDP port 5093 which provides sensitivesystem information that could be leveraged for further exploitation without any kind of authentication. Thisinformation includes detailed hardware and OS characteristics.After a decryption process, a textual protocol is found which contains a simple header with the requested command,application-identifier, and some arguments. The protocol leaks information regarding the receiving serverinformation, license information and managing licenses, among others.Through this flaw, attackers can retreive information about a KUKA simulation system, particularly, the version ofthe licensing server, which is connected to the simulator, and which will allow them to launch local simulationswith similar characteristics, further understanding the dynamics of motion virtualization and opening doors toother attacks (see RVDP#711 and RVDP#712 for subsequent vulnerabilities that compromise integrity andavailability).Beyond compromising simulations, Visual Components provides capabilities to interface with industrial machinery.Particularly, their PLC Connectivity feature 'makes it easy' to connect simulations with control systems usingeither the industry standard OPC UA or other supported vendor specific interfaces. This fills the gap of jumpingfrom simulation to real and enables attackers to pivot from the Visual Components simulator to robots or otherIndustrial Control System (ICS) devices, such as PLCs.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":null,"headline":"RVD#3336: System information disclosure without authentication on KUKA simulators","id":"CVE-2020-10291","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"information_disclosure","year":"2020"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"Service DoS through arbitrary pointer dereferencing on KUKA simulator","id":"CVE-2020-10292"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"RVD#1495: Universal Robots URCaps execute with unbounded privileges","id":"CVE-2020-10290"},"products":["Visual Components Network License Server 2.0.8"],"published":"2020-11-06","related":[{"cvss_score":8.2,"headline":"Service DoS through arbitrary pointer dereferencing on KUKA simulator","id":"CVE-2020-10292","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2020-11-06"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-09-16","vendors":["KUKA Roboter GmbH"]},"summary":"Unauthenticated attackers can query the KUKA Visual Components network license server to retrieve sensitive system and hardware information.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2020-10291/"}
