## What is CVE-2021-37137?

CVE-2021-37137 is a high-severity denial of service vulnerability in Debian Debian Linux, published on 19 Oct 2021. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

The Snappy frame decoder function doesn't restrict the chunk length which may lead to excessive memory usage. Beside this it also may buffer reserved skippable chunks until the whole chunk was received which may lead to excessive memory usage as well. This vulnerability can be triggered by supplying malicious input that decompresses to a very big size (via a network stream or a file) or by sending a huge skippable chunk.

Weakness: CWE-400 (Uncontrolled Resource Consumption)

Check this codebase for CVE-2021-37137 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2021-37137 is a high-severity denial of service vulnerability in Debian Debian Linux, published on 19 Oct 2021. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2021-37137 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected packages and fixed versions:
- io.netty:netty (Maven): affected all versions; no fix listed
- io.netty:netty (Maven): affected all versions; no fix listed
- io.netty:netty-codec (Maven): affected from 4.0.0; fixed in 4.1.68.Final
- io.netty:netty-codec (Maven): affected from 4.0.0; fixed in 4.1.68.Final
- org.jboss.netty:netty (Maven): affected all versions; no fix listed
- org.jboss.netty:netty (Maven): affected all versions; no fix listed

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
