It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2021-37661 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- tensorflow (Bitnami): affected from 2.3.0; fixed in 2.3.4, 2.4.3, 2.5.1\n- tensorflow (PyPI): affected all versions; fixed in 2.3.4\n- tensorflow (PyPI): affected all versions; fixed in 2.3.4\n- tensorflow (PyPI): affected from 2.3.0; fixed in 2.3.4, 2.4.3\n- tensorflow (PyPI): affected from 2.4.0; fixed in 2.4.3\n- tensorflow (PyPI): affected from 2.4.0; fixed in 2.4.3\n- tensorflow (PyPI): affected from 2.5.0; fixed in 2.5.1\n- tensorflow (PyPI): affected from 2.5.0; fixed in 2.5.1\n- tensorflow-cpu (PyPI): affected all versions; fixed in 2.3.4\n- tensorflow-cpu (PyPI): affected all versions; fixed in 2.3.4\n- tensorflow-cpu (PyPI): affected from 2.3.0; fixed in 2.3.4, 2.4.3\n- tensorflow-cpu (PyPI): affected from 2.4.0; fixed in 2.4.3\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2021-37661/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2021-37661/index.md)","id":"CVE-2021-37661","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2021-37661/index.md","name":"CVE-2021-37661","record":{"aliases":["BIT-tensorflow-2021-37661","GHSA-gf88-j2mg-cc82","PYSEC-2021-283","PYSEC-2021-574","PYSEC-2021-772"],"analysis":{"component_type":"library","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"TensorFlow machine learning library","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"An attacker can cause a denial of service in TensorFlow by providing negative arguments that trigger an integer overflow and subsequent crash.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"integer_overflow"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"tensorflow","vendor":"google"}],"cvss":{"score":5.5,"severity":"medium","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-681","name":"Incorrect Conversion between Numeric Types"}],"description":"TensorFlow is an end-to-end open source platform for machine learning. In affected versions an attacker can cause a denial of service in `boosted_trees_create_quantile_stream_resource` by using negative arguments. The [implementation](https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/blob/84d053187cb80d975ef2b9684d4b61981bca0c41/tensorflow/core/kernels/boosted_trees/quantile_ops.cc#L96) does not validate that `num_streams` only contains non-negative numbers. In turn, [this results in using this value to allocate memory](https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/blob/84d053187cb80d975ef2b9684d4b61981bca0c41/tensorflow/core/kernels/boosted_trees/quantiles/quantile_stream_resource.h#L31-L40). However, `reserve` receives an unsigned integer so there is an implicit conversion from a negative value to a large positive unsigned. This results in a crash from the standard library. We have patched the issue in GitHub commit 8a84f7a2b5a2b27ecf88d25bad9ac777cd2f7992. The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.6.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.5.1, TensorFlow 2.4.3, and TensorFlow 2.3.4, as these are also affected and still in supported range.","ecosystems":["Bitnami","PyPI"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Crash
