It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2021-41848 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: n/a. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2021-41848/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2021-41848/index.md)","id":"CVE-2021-41848","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2021-41848/index.md","name":"CVE-2021-41848","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-x838-28hj-38c5"],"analysis":{"component_type":"operating_system","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["code_execution","privilege_escalation"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Android OS update mechanism","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"Local apps can spoof software updates using a hard-coded AES key to execute arbitrary code as root, enabling persistent privilege escalation and data theft.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"hardcoded_credentials"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"mitre","cpe":[{"product":"g90_firmware","vendor":"bluproducts"},{"product":"g9_firmware","vendor":"bluproducts"},{"product":"simo_firmware","vendor":"luna"},{"product":"tommy_3_firmware","vendor":"wikomobile"},{"product":"tommy_3_plus_firmware","vendor":"wikomobile"}],"cvss":{"score":7.8,"severity":"high","source":"nvd","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-798","name":"Use of Hard-coded Credentials"}],"description":"An issue was discovered in Luna Simo PPR1.180610.011/202001031830. It mishandles software updates such that local third-party apps can provide a spoofed software update file that contains an arbitrary shell script and arbitrary ARM binary, where both will be executed as the root user with an SELinux domain named osi. To exploit this vulnerability, a local third-party app needs to have write access to external storage to write the spoofed update at the expected path. The vulnerable system binary (i.e., /system/bin/osi_bin) does not perform any authentication of the update file beyond ensuring that it is encrypted with an AES key (that is hard-coded in the vulnerable system binary). Processes executing with the osi SELinux domain can programmatically perform the following actions: install apps, grant runtime permissions to apps (including permissions with protection levels of dangerous and development), access extensive Personally Identifiable Information (PII) using the programmatically grant permissions, uninstall apps, set the default launcher app to a malicious launcher app that spoofs other apps, set a network proxy to intercept network traffic, unload kernel modules, set the default keyboard to a keyboard that has keylogging functionality, examine notification contents, send text messages, and more. The spoofed update can optionally contain an arbitrary ARM binary that will be locally stored in internal storage and executed at system startup to achieve persistent code execution as the root user with the osi SELinux domain. This ARM binary will continue to execute at startup even if the app that provided the spoofed update is uninstalled.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":null,"headline":"Hardcoded credentials in n/a","id":"CVE-2021-41848","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"hardcoded_credentials","year":"2021"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":4,"next":{"headline":"Information disclosure in n/a","id":"CVE-2021-41849"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"Missing authorization in n/a","id":"CVE-2021-41847"},"products":["n/a"],"published":"2022-03-11","related":[{"cvss_score":7.8,"headline":"Information disclosure in n/a","id":"CVE-2021-41850","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-03-11"},{"cvss_score":5.5,"headline":"Information disclosure in n/a","id":"CVE-2021-41849","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-03-11"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-08-04","vendors":["n/a"]},"summary":"Local apps can spoof software updates using a hard-coded AES key to execute arbitrary code as root, enabling persistent privilege escalation and data theft.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2021-41848/"}
