An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2022-0618 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2 (SwiftURL): affected from 1.0.0; fixed in 1.20\n- github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2 (SwiftURL): affected from 1.0.0; fixed in 1.20\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-0618/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-0618/index.md)","id":"CVE-2022-0618","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-0618/index.md","name":"CVE-2022-0618","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-q36x-r5x4-h4q6"],"analysis":{"component_type":"library","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"SwiftNIO HTTP2 library","requires_auth":"none","summary":"A remote attacker can crash the application by sending a specially crafted HTTP/2 frame, causing a denial of service.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Swift","cpe":[{"product":"swiftnio_http\\/2","vendor":"apple"}],"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"high","source":"nvd","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-130","name":"Improper Handling of Length Parameter Inconsistency"}],"description":"A program using swift-nio-http2 is vulnerable to a denial of service attack, caused by a network peer sending a specially crafted HTTP/2 frame. This vulnerability is caused by a logical error when parsing a HTTP/2 HEADERS or HTTP/2 PUSH_PROMISE frame where the frame contains padding information without any other data. This logical error caused confusion about the size of the frame, leading to a parsing error. This parsing error immediately crashes the entire process. Sending a HEADERS frame or PUSH_PROMISE frame with HTTP/2 padding information does not require any special permission, so any HTTP/2 connection peer may send such a frame. For clients, this means any server to which they connect may launch this attack. For servers, anyone they allow to connect to them may launch such an attack. The attack is low-effort: it takes very little resources to send an appropriately crafted frame. The impact on availability is high: receiving the frame immediately crashes the server, dropping all in-flight connections and causing the service to need to restart. It is straightforward for an attacker to repeatedly send appropriately crafted frames, so attackers require very few resources to achieve a substantial denial of service. The attack does not have any confidentiality or integrity risks in and of itself: swift-nio-http2 is parsing the frame in memory-safe code, so the crash is safe. However, sudden process crashes can lead to violations of invariants in services, so it is possible that this attack can be used to trigger an error condition that has confidentiality or integrity risks. The risk can be mitigated if untrusted peers can be prevented from communicating with the service. This mitigation is not available to many services. The issue is fixed by rewriting the parsing code to correctly handle the condition. The issue was found by automated fuzzing by oss-fuzz.","ecosystems":["SwiftURL"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Denial of service via HTTP/2 HEADERS frames padding","id":"CVE-2022-0618","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"SwiftURL","product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2022"},"n_packages":2,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"Database Peek \u003c= 1.2 - Reflected Cross-Site Scripting","id":"CVE-2022-0619"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"SwiftURL","fixed":["1.20"],"introduced":["1.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-q36x-r5x4-h4q6"},{"ecosystem":"SwiftURL","fixed":["1.20"],"introduced":["1.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2","purl":"pkg:swift/github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2","source":"GHSA-q36x-r5x4-h4q6"}],"prev":{"headline":"Null dereference in Kernel","id":"CVE-2022-0617"},"products":["SwiftNIO HTTP2"],"published":"2022-03-09","related":[{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"swift-nio-http2 vulnerable to denial of service via invalid HTTP/2 HEADERS frame length","id":"CVE-2022-24666","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-02-09"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"swift-nio-http2 vulnerable to denial of service via mishandled HPACK variable length integer encoding","id":"CVE-2022-24667","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-02-09"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"swift-nio-http2 vulnerable to denial of service via ALTSVC or ORIGIN frames","id":"CVE-2022-24668","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-02-09"},{"cvss_score":5.3,"headline":"swift-nio-http2: Missing CR/LF/NUL validation in header values","id":"CVE-2026-64785","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-07-23"},{"cvss_score":5.3,"headline":"SwiftNIO HTTP/2: HTTP/2-to-HTTP/1 Request Smuggling via unvalidated :path pseudo-header in HTTP2ToHTTP1Codec","id":"CVE-2026-28898","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-06-25"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-08-02","vendors":["Swift Project"]},"summary":"A remote attacker can crash the application by sending a specially crafted HTTP/2 frame, causing a denial of service.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-0618/"}
