An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2022-24668 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2 (SwiftURL): affected from 1.0.0; fixed in 1.19.2\n- github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2 (SwiftURL): affected from 1.0.0; fixed in 1.19.2\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-24668/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-24668/index.md)","id":"CVE-2022-24668","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-24668/index.md","name":"CVE-2022-24668","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-pgfx-g6rc-8cjv"],"analysis":{"component_type":"library","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"SwiftNIO HTTP2 library","requires_auth":"none","summary":"Remote attackers can crash SwiftNIO HTTP2 services by sending unsupported ALTSVC or ORIGIN frames, causing a denial of service.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Swift","cpe":[{"product":"swiftnio_http\\/2","vendor":"apple"}],"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"high","source":"nvd","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-241","name":"Improper Handling of Unexpected Data Type"}],"description":"A program using swift-nio-http2 is vulnerable to a denial of service attack caused by a network peer sending ALTSVC or ORIGIN frames. This attack affects all swift-nio-http2 versions from 1.0.0 to 1.19.1. This vulnerability is caused by a logical error after frame parsing but before frame handling. ORIGIN and ALTSVC frames are not currently supported by swift-nio-http2, and should be ignored. However, one code path that encounters them has a deliberate trap instead. This was left behind from the original development process and was never removed. Sending an ALTSVC or ORIGIN frame does not require any special permission, so any HTTP/2 connection peer may send such a frame. For clients, this means any server to which they connect may launch this attack. For servers, anyone they allow to connect to them may launch such an attack. The attack is low-effort: it takes very little resources to send one of these frames. The impact on availability is high: receiving the frame immediately crashes the server, dropping all in-flight connections and causing the service to need to restart. It is straightforward for an attacker to repeatedly send these frames, so attackers require very few resources to achieve a substantial denial of service. The attack does not have any confidentiality or integrity risks in and of itself. This is a controlled, intentional crash. However, sudden process crashes can lead to violations of invariants in services, so it is possible that this attack can be used to trigger an error condition that has confidentiality or integrity risks. The risk can be mitigated if untrusted peers can be prevented from communicating with the service. This mitigation is not available to many services. The issue is fixed by rewriting the parsing code to correctly handle the condition. The issue was found by automated fuzzing by oss-fuzz.","ecosystems":["SwiftURL"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"swift-nio-http2 vulnerable to denial of service via ALTSVC or ORIGIN frames","id":"CVE-2022-24668","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"SwiftURL","product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2022"},"n_packages":2,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"Anonymous users can register / de-register for configuration change notifications","id":"CVE-2022-24669"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"SwiftURL","fixed":["1.19.2"],"introduced":["1.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-pgfx-g6rc-8cjv"},{"ecosystem":"SwiftURL","fixed":["1.19.2"],"introduced":["1.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2","purl":"pkg:swift/github.com/apple/swift-nio-http2","source":"GHSA-pgfx-g6rc-8cjv"}],"prev":{"headline":"swift-nio-http2 vulnerable to denial of service via mishandled HPACK variable length integer encoding","id":"CVE-2022-24667"},"products":["SwiftNIO HTTP2"],"published":"2022-02-09","related":[{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"Denial of service via HTTP/2 HEADERS frames padding","id":"CVE-2022-0618","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-03-09"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"swift-nio-http2 vulnerable to denial of service via invalid HTTP/2 HEADERS frame length","id":"CVE-2022-24666","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-02-09"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"swift-nio-http2 vulnerable to denial of service via mishandled HPACK variable length integer encoding","id":"CVE-2022-24667","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-02-09"},{"cvss_score":5.3,"headline":"swift-nio-http2: Missing CR/LF/NUL validation in header values","id":"CVE-2026-64785","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-07-23"},{"cvss_score":5.3,"headline":"SwiftNIO HTTP/2: HTTP/2-to-HTTP/1 Request Smuggling via unvalidated :path pseudo-header in HTTP2ToHTTP1Codec","id":"CVE-2026-28898","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-06-25"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-08-03","vendors":["Swift Project"]},"summary":"Remote attackers can crash SwiftNIO HTTP2 services by sending unsupported ALTSVC or ORIGIN frames, causing a denial of service.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-24668/"}
