Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-24769/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-24769/index.md)","id":"CVE-2022-24769","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-24769/index.md","name":"CVE-2022-24769","record":{"aliases":["AZL-9698","CLEANSTART-2025-DA74849","CLEANSTART-2026-LD65772","DEBIAN-CVE-2022-24769","GHSA-2mm7-x5h6-5pvq","GO-2022-0390","MGASA-2022-0117","MGASA-2022-0144","OESA-2022-1726","UBUNTU-CVE-2022-24769","openSUSE-SU-2024:12001-1","openSUSE-SU-2024:12002-1"],"analysis":null,"analysis_generated_by":null,"assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"debian_linux","vendor":"debian"},{"product":"fedora","vendor":"fedoraproject"},{"product":"runc","vendor":"linuxfoundation"},{"product":"moby","vendor":"mobyproject"}],"cvss":{"score":5.9,"severity":"medium","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-732","name":"Incorrect Permission Assignment for Critical Resource"}],"description":"Moby is an open-source project created by Docker to enable and accelerate software containerization. A bug was found in Moby (Docker Engine) prior to version 20.10.14 where containers were incorrectly started with non-empty inheritable Linux process capabilities, creating an atypical Linux environment and enabling programs with inheritable file capabilities to elevate those capabilities to the permitted set during `execve(2)`. Normally, when executable programs have specified permitted file capabilities, otherwise unprivileged users and processes can execute those programs and gain the specified file capabilities up to the bounding set. Due to this bug, containers which included executable programs with inheritable file capabilities allowed otherwise unprivileged users and processes to additionally gain these inheritable file capabilities up to the container's bounding set. Containers which use Linux users and groups to perform privilege separation inside the container are most directly impacted. This bug did not affect the container security sandbox as the inheritable set never contained more capabilities than were included in the container's bounding set. This bug has been fixed in Moby (Docker Engine) 20.10.14. Running containers should be stopped, deleted, and recreated for the inheritable capabilities to be reset. This fix changes Moby (Docker Engine) behavior such that containers are started with a more typical Linux environment. As a workaround, the entry point of a container can be modified to use a utility like `capsh(1)` to drop inheritable capabilities prior to the primary process starting.","ecosystems":["Go","openSUSE:Tumbleweed"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Default inheritable capabilities for linux container should be empty","id":"CVE-2022-24769","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Go","product":"debian:debian_linux","products":["debian:debian_linux","fedoraproject:fedora"],"type":null,"year":"2022"},"n_packages":8,"n_references":12,"next":{"headline":"Improper Neutralization of Formula Elements in a CSV File in Gradio Flagging","id":"CVE-2022-24770"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["20.10.14"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/docker/docker","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-2mm7-x5h6-5pvq"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["20.10.14"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/docker/docker","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/docker/docker","source":"GHSA-2mm7-x5h6-5pvq"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["20.10.14+incompatible"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/docker/docker","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/docker/docker","source":"GO-2022-0390"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["20.10.14"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/moby/moby","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-2mm7-x5h6-5pvq"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["20.10.14"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/moby/moby","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/moby/moby","source":"GHSA-2mm7-x5h6-5pvq"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["20.10.14+incompatible"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/moby/moby","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/moby/moby","source":"GO-2022-0390"},{"ecosystem":"openSUSE:Tumbleweed","fixed":["1.5.11-1.1"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"containerd","purl":"pkg:rpm/opensuse/containerd\u0026distro=openSUSE%20Tumbleweed","source":"openSUSE-SU-2024:12001-1"},{"ecosystem":"openSUSE:Tumbleweed","fixed":["20.10.14_ce-1.1"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"docker","purl":"pkg:rpm/opensuse/docker\u0026distro=openSUSE%20Tumbleweed","source":"openSUSE-SU-2024:12002-1"}],"prev":{"headline":"Improper access control allows admin privilege escalation in Argo CD","id":"CVE-2022-24768"},"products":["moby"],"published":"2022-03-24","related":[{"cvss_score":10,"headline":"ProFTPD Improper Access Control","id":"CVE-2015-3306","kev_date_added":"2026-10-08","published":"2015-05-18"},{"cvss_score":9.9,"headline":"RoundCube Webmail Deserialization of Untrusted Data","id":"CVE-2025-49113","kev_date_added":"2026-02-20","published":"2025-06-02"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"GNU InetUtils Argument Injection","id":"CVE-2026-24061","kev_date_added":"2026-01-26","published":"2026-01-21"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Linux Kernel Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions","id":"CVE-2025-39682","kev_date_added":"2026-09-18","published":"2025-09-05"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Mozilla Firefox Use-After-Free","id":"CVE-2024-9680","kev_date_added":"2024-10-15","published":"2024-10-09"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"RARLAB UnRAR Directory Traversal","id":"CVE-2022-30333","kev_date_added":"2022-08-09","published":"2022-05-09"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Roundcube Webmail SQL Injection","id":"CVE-2021-44026","kev_date_added":"2023-06-22","published":"2021-11-19"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"Go Vulnerability Database","prefix":"GO"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"SUSE","prefix":"openSUSE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-08-03","vendors":["moby"]},"summary":null,"url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-24769/"}
