It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2022-41874 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- Tauri (crates.io): affected from 1.0.0; fixed in 1.0.7\n- Tauri (crates.io): affected from 1.0.0; fixed in 1.0.7\n- Tauri (crates.io): affected from 1.1.0; fixed in 1.1.2\n- Tauri (crates.io): affected from 1.1.0; fixed in 1.1.2\n- tauri (crates.io): affected from 1.0.0; fixed in 1.0.7, 1.1.2\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-41874/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-41874/index.md)","id":"CVE-2022-41874","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-41874/index.md","name":"CVE-2022-41874","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-q9wv-22m9-vhqh","RUSTSEC-2022-0091"],"analysis":{"component_type":"desktop_application","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["data_read","security_bypass"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Tauri desktop framework","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"Attackers can bypass filesystem scope restrictions to access neighboring files via malicious file selection in Tauri desktop applications.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"path_traversal"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"tauri","vendor":"tauri"}],"cvss":{"score":2.6,"severity":"low","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:H/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:N","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-706","name":"Use of Incorrectly-Resolved Name or Reference"},{"id":"CWE-668","name":"Exposure of Resource to Wrong Sphere"}],"description":"Tauri is a framework for building binaries for all major desktop platforms. In versions prior to 1.0.7 and 1.1.2, Tauri is vulnerable to an Incorrectly-Resolved Name. Due to incorrect escaping of special characters in paths selected via the file dialog and drag and drop functionality, it is possible to partially bypass the `fs` scope definition. It is not possible to traverse into arbitrary paths, as the issue is limited to neighboring files and sub folders of already allowed paths. The impact differs on Windows, MacOS and Linux due to different specifications of valid path characters. This bypass depends on the file picker dialog or dragged files, as user selected paths are automatically added to the allow list at runtime. A successful bypass requires the user to select a pre-existing malicious file or directory during the file picker dialog and an adversary controlled logic to access these files. The issue has been patched in versions 1.0.7, 1.1.2 and 1.2.0. As a workaround, disable the dialog and fileDropEnabled component inside the tauri.conf.json.","ecosystems":["crates.io"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Tauri Filesystem Scope can be Partially Bypassed","id":"CVE-2022-41874","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"crates.io","product":null,"products":[],"type":"path_traversal","year":"2022"},"n_packages":5,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"Remote Code Execution in Optica","id":"CVE-2022-41875"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","fixed":["1.0.7"],"introduced":["1.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Tauri","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-q9wv-22m9-vhqh"},{"ecosystem":"crates.io","fixed":["1.0.7"],"introduced":["1.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Tauri","purl":"pkg:cargo/Tauri","source":"GHSA-q9wv-22m9-vhqh"},{"ecosystem":"crates.io","fixed":["1.1.2"],"introduced":["1.1.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Tauri","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-q9wv-22m9-vhqh"},{"ecosystem":"crates.io","fixed":["1.1.2"],"introduced":["1.1.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Tauri","purl":"pkg:cargo/Tauri","source":"GHSA-q9wv-22m9-vhqh"},{"ecosystem":"crates.io","fixed":["1.0.7","1.1.2"],"introduced":["1.0.0","1.1.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"tauri","purl":"pkg:cargo/tauri","source":"RUSTSEC-2022-0091"}],"prev":{"headline":"Out-of-bounds read and write in BLE L2CAP module","id":"CVE-2022-41873"},"products":["tauri"],"published":"2022-11-10","related":[{"cvss_score":8.4,"headline":"Updater Private Keys Possibly Leaked via Vite Environment Variables in tauri-cli","id":"CVE-2023-46115","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2023-10-19"},{"cvss_score":8.3,"headline":"The readDir Endpoint Scope can be Bypassed With Symbolic Links in Tauri","id":"CVE-2022-39215","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-09-15"},{"cvss_score":6.8,"headline":"Tauri vulnerable to path traversal","id":"CVE-2022-46171","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-12-23"},{"cvss_score":6.1,"headline":"Tauri: Origin Confusion Allows Remote Pages to Invoke Local-Only IPC Commands","id":"CVE-2026-42184","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-05-27"},{"cvss_score":4.8,"headline":"Tauri vulnerable to Regression on Filesystem Scope Checks for Dotfiles","id":"CVE-2023-34460","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2023-06-23"},{"cvss_score":4.8,"headline":"Tauri Open Redirect Vulnerability Possibly Exposes IPC to External Sites","id":"CVE-2023-31134","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2023-05-09"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"open","licence":"CC0 1.0","name":"RustSec","prefix":"RUSTSEC"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2025-04-23","vendors":["tauri-apps"]},"summary":"Attackers can bypass filesystem scope restrictions to access neighboring files via malicious file selection in Tauri desktop applications.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2022-41874/"}
