What is CVE-2022-49128?
CVE-2022-49128 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 26 Feb 2025. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Official description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/bridge: Add missing pm_runtime_put_sync
pm_runtime_get_sync() will increase the rumtime PM counter even when it returns an error. Thus a pairing decrement is needed to prevent refcount leak. Fix this by replacing this API with pm_runtime_resume_and_get(), which will not change the runtime PM counter on error. Besides, a matching decrement is needed on the error handling path to keep the counter balanced.
Which versions are affected by CVE-2022-49128?
It affects 1 product.
Products include Linux kernel.
How do I fix CVE-2022-49128?
Apply the vendor's patch.
Upgrade, then put limits on request size, rate and nesting depth so one client cannot exhaust the service. More about Denial of service.
Is CVE-2022-49128 being exploited?
There is no known exploitation of CVE-2022-49128 in the wild and no public exploit code.
