## What is CVE-2022-49429?

CVE-2022-49429 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 26 Feb 2025. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

RDMA/hfi1: Prevent panic when SDMA is disabled

If the hfi1 module is loaded with HFI1_CAP_SDMA off, a call to
hfi1_write_iter() will dereference a NULL pointer and panic. A typical
stack frame is:

  sdma_select_user_engine [hfi1]
  hfi1_user_sdma_process_request [hfi1]
  hfi1_write_iter [hfi1]
  do_iter_readv_writev
  do_iter_write
  vfs_writev
  do_writev
  do_syscall_64

The fix is to test for SDMA in hfi1_write_iter() and fail the I/O with
EINVAL.

Weakness: CWE-476 (NULL Pointer Dereference)

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2022-49429 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2022-49429 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 26 Feb 2025. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2022-49429 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Linux kernel. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
