## What is CVE-2022-50367?

CVE-2022-50367 is a high-severity use after free vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 17 Sep 2025. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

fs: fix UAF/GPF bug in nilfs_mdt_destroy

In alloc_inode, inode_init_always() could return -ENOMEM if
security_inode_alloc() fails, which causes inode->i_private
uninitialized. Then nilfs_is_metadata_file_inode() returns
true and nilfs_free_inode() wrongly calls nilfs_mdt_destroy(),
which frees the uninitialized inode->i_private
and leads to crashes(e.g., UAF/GPF).

Fix this by moving security_inode_alloc just prior to
this_cpu_inc(nr_inodes)

Weakness: CWE-416 (Use After Free)

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2022-50367 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2022-50367 is a high-severity use after free vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 17 Sep 2025. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2022-50367 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Linux kernel. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
