An attacker needs administrator access to exploit it, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2023-26049 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected all versions; fixed in 9.4.51.v20230217\n- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected all versions; fixed in 9.4.51.v20230217\n- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 10.0.0; fixed in 10.0.14\n- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 10.0.0; fixed in 10.0.14\n- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 11.0.0; fixed in 11.0.14\n- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 11.0.0; fixed in 11.0.14\n- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 12.0.0alpha0; fixed in 12.0.0.beta0\n- org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server (Maven): affected from 12.0.0alpha0; fixed in 12.0.0.beta0\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-26049/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-26049/index.md)","id":"CVE-2023-26049","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-26049/index.md","name":"CVE-2023-26049","record":{"aliases":["CLEANSTART-2026-CA01896","CLEANSTART-2026-UA75354","CLSA-2026-1787550865","DEBIAN-CVE-2023-26049","GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c","UBUNTU-CVE-2023-26049"],"analysis":{"component_type":"server_software","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["data_read","security_bypass"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Java web server","requires_auth":"high_privilege","summary":"Attackers can exfiltrate HttpOnly cookies and bypass intermediary policies by exploiting nonstandard quoted cookie parsing in Eclipse Jetty.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"information_disclosure"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"debian_linux","vendor":"debian"},{"product":"jetty","vendor":"eclipse"},{"product":"active_iq_unified_manager","vendor":"netapp"},{"product":"e-series_santricity_os_controller","vendor":"netapp"},{"product":"e-series_santricity_unified_manager","vendor":"netapp"},{"product":"e-series_santricity_web_services","vendor":"netapp"}],"cvss":{"score":2.4,"severity":"low","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-200","name":"Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor"}],"description":"Jetty is a java based web server and servlet engine. Nonstandard cookie parsing in Jetty may allow an attacker to smuggle cookies within other cookies, or otherwise perform unintended behavior by tampering with the cookie parsing mechanism. If Jetty sees a cookie VALUE that starts with `\"` (double quote), it will continue to read the cookie string until it sees a closing quote -- even if a semicolon is encountered. So, a cookie header such as: `DISPLAY_LANGUAGE=\"b; JSESSIONID=1337; c=d\"` will be parsed as one cookie, with the name DISPLAY_LANGUAGE and a value of b; JSESSIONID=1337; c=d instead of 3 separate cookies. This has security implications because if, say, JSESSIONID is an HttpOnly cookie, and the DISPLAY_LANGUAGE cookie value is rendered on the page, an attacker can smuggle the JSESSIONID cookie into the DISPLAY_LANGUAGE cookie and thereby exfiltrate it. This is significant when an intermediary is enacting some policy based on cookies, so a smuggled cookie can bypass that policy yet still be seen by the Jetty server or its logging system. This issue has been addressed in versions 9.4.51, 10.0.14, 11.0.14, and 12.0.0.beta0 and users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this issue.","ecosystems":["Maven"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":"2023-11-01","github_poc":1,"max_poc_stars":0,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[{"date":"2023-11-01T20:37:41Z","kind":"github_poc","ref":"https://github.com/uthrasri/jetty-9.4.31.v20200723_CVE-2023-26049","stars":0,"title":null}],"tier":"poc_unverified"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Cookie parsing of quoted values can exfiltrate values from other cookies in Eclipse Jetty","id":"CVE-2023-26049","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Maven","product":"debian:debian_linux","products":["debian:debian_linux","eclipse:jetty","netapp:active_iq_unified_manager","netapp:e-series_santricity_os_controller","netapp:e-series_santricity_web_services"],"type":"information_disclosure","year":"2023"},"n_packages":8,"n_references":8,"next":{"headline":"Saleor is vulnerable to staff-authenticated error message information disclosure vulnerability via Python exceptions","id":"CVE-2023-26051"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["9.4.51.v20230217"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["9.4.51.v20230217"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server","purl":"pkg:maven/org.eclipse.jetty/jetty-server","source":"GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["10.0.14"],"introduced":["10.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["10.0.14"],"introduced":["10.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server","purl":"pkg:maven/org.eclipse.jetty/jetty-server","source":"GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["11.0.14"],"introduced":["11.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["11.0.14"],"introduced":["11.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server","purl":"pkg:maven/org.eclipse.jetty/jetty-server","source":"GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["12.0.0.beta0"],"introduced":["12.0.0alpha0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["12.0.0.beta0"],"introduced":["12.0.0alpha0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server","purl":"pkg:maven/org.eclipse.jetty/jetty-server","source":"GHSA-p26g-97m4-6q7c"}],"prev":{"headline":"OutOfMemoryError for large multipart without filename in Eclipse Jetty","id":"CVE-2023-26048"},"products":["jetty.project"],"published":"2023-04-18","related":[{"cvss_score":10,"headline":"ProFTPD Improper Access Control","id":"CVE-2015-3306","kev_date_added":"2026-10-08","published":"2015-05-18"},{"cvss_score":9.9,"headline":"RoundCube Webmail Deserialization of Untrusted Data","id":"CVE-2025-49113","kev_date_added":"2026-02-20","published":"2025-06-02"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"GNU InetUtils Argument Injection","id":"CVE-2026-24061","kev_date_added":"2026-01-26","published":"2026-01-21"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Linux Kernel Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions","id":"CVE-2025-39682","kev_date_added":"2026-09-18","published":"2025-09-05"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Mozilla Firefox Use-After-Free","id":"CVE-2024-9680","kev_date_added":"2024-10-15","published":"2024-10-09"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"RARLAB UnRAR Directory Traversal","id":"CVE-2022-30333","kev_date_added":"2022-08-09","published":"2022-05-09"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Roundcube Webmail SQL Injection","id":"CVE-2021-44026","kev_date_added":"2023-06-22","published":"2021-11-19"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"},{"class":"open","licence":"CC0","name":"PoC-in-GitHub"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2025-02-13","vendors":["eclipse"]},"summary":"Attackers can exfiltrate HttpOnly cookies and bypass intermediary policies by exploiting nonstandard quoted cookie parsing in Eclipse Jetty.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-26049/"}
