What is CVE-2023-29408?
CVE-2023-29408 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Fedoraproject Fedora, published on 2 Aug 2023. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.
Official description
The TIFF decoder does not place a limit on the size of compressed tile data. A maliciously-crafted image can exploit this to cause a small image (both in terms of pixel width/height, and encoded size) to make the decoder decode large amounts of compressed data, consuming excessive memory and CPU.
