It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2023-35163 exists.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- code.vegaprotocol.io/vega (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.71.6\n- code.vegaprotocol.io/vega (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.71.6\n- code.vegaprotocol.io/vega (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.71.6\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-35163/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-35163/index.md)","id":"CVE-2023-35163","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-35163/index.md","name":"CVE-2023-35163","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-8rc9-vxjh-qjf2","GO-2023-1865"],"analysis":{"component_type":"other","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["data_modify","privilege_escalation"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Decentralized trading platform","requires_auth":"high_privilege","summary":"Malicious validators can trick the network into re-processing Ethereum bridge events, allowing unauthorized credit of funds to user accounts.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"business_logic"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"vega","vendor":"gobalsky"}],"cvss":{"score":6,"severity":"medium","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:P/AC:H/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:L","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-20","name":"Improper Input Validation"}],"description":"Vega is a decentralized trading platform that allows pseudo-anonymous trading of derivatives on a blockchain. Prior to version 0.71.6, a vulnerability exists that allows a malicious validator to trick the Vega network into re-processing past Ethereum events from Vega’s Ethereum bridge. For example, a deposit to the collateral bridge for 100USDT that credits a party’s general account on Vega, can be re-processed 50 times resulting in 5000USDT in that party’s general account. This is without depositing any more than the original 100USDT on the bridge. Despite this exploit requiring access to a validator's Vega key, a validator key can be obtained at the small cost of 3000VEGA, the amount needed to announce a new node onto the network.\n\nA patch is available in version 0.71.6. No known workarounds are available, however there are mitigations in place should this vulnerability be exploited. There are monitoring alerts for `mainnet1` in place to identify any issues of this nature including this vulnerability being exploited. The validators have the ability to stop the bridge thus stopping any withdrawals should this vulnerability be exploited.","ecosystems":["Go"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"weaponised"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Vega's validators able to submit duplicate transactions","id":"CVE-2023-35163","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Go","product":null,"products":[],"type":"business_logic","year":"2023"},"n_packages":3,"n_references":3,"next":{"headline":"Unauthorized users can manipulate a dashboard created by an administrator in DataEase","id":"CVE-2023-35164"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.71.6"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"code.vegaprotocol.io/vega","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-8rc9-vxjh-qjf2"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.71.6"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"code.vegaprotocol.io/vega","purl":"pkg:golang/code.vegaprotocol.io/vega","source":"GHSA-8rc9-vxjh-qjf2"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.71.6"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"code.vegaprotocol.io/vega","purl":"pkg:golang/code.vegaprotocol.io/vega","source":"GO-2023-1865"}],"prev":{"headline":"XPlatform Wiki vulnerable to cross-site scripting via xcontinue parameter in preview actions template","id":"CVE-2023-35162"},"products":["vega"],"published":"2023-06-23","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"Go Vulnerability Database","prefix":"GO"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"poc","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-11-07","vendors":["vegaprotocol"]},"summary":"Malicious validators can trick the network into re-processing Ethereum bridge events, allowing unauthorized credit of funds to user accounts.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-35163/"}
