Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2023-37264 exists.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- github.com/tektoncd/pipeline (Go): affected from 0.35.0; no fix listed\n- github.com/tektoncd/pipeline (Go): affected from 0.35.0 up to 0.52.0; no fix listed\n- github.com/tektoncd/pipeline (Go): affected from 0.35.0 up to 0.52.0; no fix listed\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-37264/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-37264/index.md)","id":"CVE-2023-37264","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-37264/index.md","name":"CVE-2023-37264","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-w2h3-vvvq-3m53","GO-2023-1901"],"analysis":{"component_type":"container_or_infrastructure","fix_type":"no_fix_stated","impacts":["data_modify","security_bypass"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Tekton Pipelines","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"Attackers with TaskRun creation access can hijack pipeline execution by injecting malicious child tasks, violating supply chain integrity requirements.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"missing_authorization"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"tekton_pipelines","vendor":"linuxfoundation"}],"cvss":{"score":3.7,"severity":"low","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-345","name":"Insufficient Verification of Data Authenticity"}],"description":"Tekton Pipelines project provides k8s-style resources for declaring CI/CD-style pipelines. Starting in version 0.35.0, pipelines do not validate child UIDs, which means that a user that has access to create TaskRuns can create their own Tasks that the Pipelines controller will accept as the child Task. While the software stores and validates the PipelineRun's (api version, kind, name, uid) in the child Run's OwnerReference, it only store (api version, kind, name) in the ChildStatusReference. This means that if a client had access to create TaskRuns on a cluster, they could create a child TaskRun for a pipeline with the same name + owner reference, and the Pipeline controller picks it up as if it was the original TaskRun. This is problematic since it can let users modify the config of Pipelines at runtime, which violates SLSA L2 Service Generated / Non-falsifiable requirements. This issue can be used to trick the Pipeline controller into associating unrelated Runs to the Pipeline, feeding its data through the rest of the Pipeline. This requires access to create TaskRuns, so impact may vary depending on one Tekton setup. If users already have unrestricted access to create any Task/PipelineRun, this does not grant any additional capabilities. As of time of publication, there are no known patches for this issue.","ecosystems":["Go"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"weaponised"},"has_fix":false,"headline":"Pipelines do not validate child UIDs","id":"CVE-2023-37264","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Go","product":null,"products":[],"type":"missing_authorization","year":"2023"},"n_packages":3,"n_references":3,"next":{"headline":"Incorrect identification of source IP addresses in CasaOS","id":"CVE-2023-37265"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":[],"introduced":["0.35.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/tektoncd/pipeline","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/tektoncd/pipeline","source":"GO-2023-1901"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":[],"introduced":["0.35.0"],"last_affected":["0.52.0"],"package":"github.com/tektoncd/pipeline","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-w2h3-vvvq-3m53"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":[],"introduced":["0.35.0"],"last_affected":["0.52.0"],"package":"github.com/tektoncd/pipeline","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/tektoncd/pipeline","source":"GHSA-w2h3-vvvq-3m53"}],"prev":{"headline":"Strapi's field level permissions not being respected in relationship title","id":"CVE-2023-37263"},"products":["pipeline"],"published":"2023-07-07","related":[{"cvss_score":9.6,"headline":"Tekton Pipelines git resolver has path traversal that allows reading arbitrary files from the resolver pod","id":"CVE-2026-33211","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-03-23"},{"cvss_score":7.7,"headline":"Tekton Pipelines: Git resolver API mode leaks system-configured API token to user-controlled serverURL","id":"CVE-2026-40161","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-04-21"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"Tekton Pipelines: Git Resolver Unsanitized Revision Parameter Enables git Argument Injection Leading to RCE","id":"CVE-2026-40938","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-04-21"},{"cvss_score":6.5,"headline":"Tekton Pipelines: VerificationPolicy regex pattern bypass via substring matching","id":"CVE-2026-25542","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-04-21"},{"cvss_score":6.5,"headline":"Tekton Pipelines: HTTP Resolver Unbounded Response Body Read Enables Denial of Service via Memory Exhaustion","id":"CVE-2026-40924","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-04-21"},{"cvss_score":6.5,"headline":"Tekton Pipelines: Controller can panic when setting long resolver names in TaskRun/PipelineRun","id":"CVE-2026-33022","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-03-20"},{"cvss_score":5.4,"headline":"Tekton Pipelines: VolumeMount path restriction bypass via missing filepath.Clean in /tekton/ check","id":"CVE-2026-40923","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-04-21"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"Go Vulnerability Database","prefix":"GO"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"poc","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-11-04","vendors":["tektoncd"]},"summary":"Attackers with TaskRun creation access can hijack pipeline execution by injecting malicious child tasks, violating supply chain integrity requirements.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2023-37264/"}
