## What is CVE-2023-50387?

CVE-2023-50387 is a high-severity denial of service vulnerability in Fedoraproject Fedora, published on 14 Feb 2024. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

Certain DNSSEC aspects of the DNS protocol (in RFC 4033, 4034, 4035, 6840, and related RFCs) allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via one or more DNSSEC responses, aka the "KeyTrap" issue. One of the concerns is that, when there is a zone with many DNSKEY and RRSIG records, the protocol specification implies that an algorithm must evaluate all combinations of DNSKEY and RRSIG records.

Weakness: CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling)

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2023-50387 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2023-50387 is a high-severity denial of service vulnerability in Fedoraproject Fedora, published on 14 Feb 2024. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2023-50387 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Fedoraproject Fedora. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
