What is CVE-2024-0607?
CVE-2024-0607 is a medium-severity memory corruption vulnerability in Debian Debian Linux, published on 18 Jan 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Official description
A flaw was found in the Netfilter subsystem in the Linux kernel. The issue is in the nft_byteorder_eval() function, where the code iterates through a loop and writes to the `dst` array. On each iteration, 8 bytes are written, but `dst` is an array of u32, so each element only has space for 4 bytes. That means every iteration overwrites part of the previous element corrupting this array of u32. This flaw allows a local user to cause a denial of service or potentially break NetFilter functionality.
Weakness: CWE-229
Which versions are affected by CVE-2024-0607?
It affects 4 products.
Products include Debian Debian Linux, Fedoraproject Fedora, Linux kernel, Redhat Enterprise Linux.
How do I fix CVE-2024-0607?
Apply the vendor's patch.
Upgrade to the fixed version. Memory-safe languages, compiler hardening and fuzzing prevent most new cases. More about Memory corruption.
Is CVE-2024-0607 being exploited?
