An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-1635 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- io.undertow:undertow-core (Maven): affected all versions; fixed in 2.2.31.Final\n- io.undertow:undertow-core (Maven): affected all versions; fixed in 2.2.31.Final\n- io.undertow:undertow-core (Maven): affected from 2.3.0.Final; fixed in 2.3.12.Final\n- io.undertow:undertow-core (Maven): affected from 2.3.0.Final; fixed in 2.3.12.Final\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-1635/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-1635/index.md)","id":"CVE-2024-1635","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-1635/index.md","name":"CVE-2024-1635","record":{"aliases":["CLSA-2026-1781139194","DEBIAN-CVE-2024-1635","GHSA-w6qf-42m7-vh68","UBUNTU-CVE-2024-1635"],"analysis":{"component_type":"server_software","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Undertow web server","requires_auth":"none","summary":"An attacker can exhaust server memory and file limits by rapidly opening and closing connections, causing a denial of service in Undertow.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"redhat","cpe":[{"product":"active_iq_unified_manager","vendor":"netapp"},{"product":"oncommand_workflow_automation","vendor":"netapp"},{"product":"fuse","vendor":"redhat"},{"product":"integration_camel_for_spring_boot","vendor":"redhat"},{"product":"jboss_enterprise_application_platform","vendor":"redhat"},{"product":"openshift_container_platform","vendor":"redhat"},{"product":"openshift_container_platform_for_linuxone","vendor":"redhat"},{"product":"openshift_container_platform_for_power","vendor":"redhat"},{"product":"single_sign-on","vendor":"redhat"}],"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-400","name":"Uncontrolled Resource Consumption"}],"description":"A vulnerability was found in Undertow. This vulnerability impacts a server that supports the wildfly-http-client protocol. Whenever a malicious user opens and closes a connection with the HTTP port of the server and then closes the connection immediately, the server will end with both memory and open file limits exhausted at some point, depending on the amount of memory available. \r\n\r\nAt HTTP upgrade to remoting, the WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit leaks connections if RemotingConnection is closed by Remoting ServerConnectionOpenListener. Because the remoting connection originates in Undertow as part of the HTTP upgrade, there is an external layer to the remoting connection. This connection is unaware of the outermost layer when closing the connection during the connection opening procedure. Hence, the Undertow WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit is not notified of the closed connection in this scenario. Because WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit creates a timeout task, the whole dependency tree leaks via that task, which is added to XNIO WorkerThread. So, the workerThread points to the Undertow conduit, which contains the connections and causes the leak.","ecosystems":["Maven"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Undertow: out-of-memory error after several closed connections with wildfly-http-client protocol","id":"CVE-2024-1635","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Maven","product":"netapp:active_iq_unified_manager","products":["netapp:active_iq_unified_manager","netapp:oncommand_workflow_automation","redhat:jboss_enterprise_application_platform","redhat:openshift_container_platform","redhat:single_sign-on"],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2024"},"n_packages":4,"n_references":15,"next":{"headline":"Potential Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) in the page editing area","id":"CVE-2024-1636"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["2.2.31.Final"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"io.undertow:undertow-core","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-w6qf-42m7-vh68"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["2.2.31.Final"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"io.undertow:undertow-core","purl":"pkg:maven/io.undertow/undertow-core","source":"GHSA-w6qf-42m7-vh68"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["2.3.12.Final"],"introduced":["2.3.0.Final"],"last_affected":[],"package":"io.undertow:undertow-core","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-w6qf-42m7-vh68"},{"ecosystem":"Maven","fixed":["2.3.12.Final"],"introduced":["2.3.0.Final"],"last_affected":[],"package":"io.undertow:undertow-core","purl":"pkg:maven/io.undertow/undertow-core","source":"GHSA-w6qf-42m7-vh68"}],"prev":{"headline":"Missing authorization in Scheduling Plugin – Online Booking for WordPress","id":"CVE-2024-1634"},"products":["OpenShift Serverless","RHEL-8 based Middleware Containers","RHSSO 7.6.8","Red Hat Build of Keycloak","Red Hat Data Grid 8","Red Hat Fuse 7.13.0","Red Hat Integration Camel K 1","Red Hat Integration Camel Quarkus 2","Red Hat JBoss Data Grid 7","Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.1 EUS for RHEL 7","Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.3 EUS for RHEL 7","Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.4 for RHEL 8","Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.4 for RHEL 9","Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.4 on RHEL 7","Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.4.16","Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 8","Red Hat JBoss Fuse Service Works 6","Red Hat Process Automation 7","Red Hat Single Sign-On 7.6 for RHEL 7","Red Hat Single Sign-On 7.6 for RHEL 8","Red Hat Single Sign-On 7.6 for RHEL 9","Red Hat build of Apache Camel 4 for Quarkus 3","Red Hat build of Apache Camel 4.4.1 for Spring Boot 3.2","Red Hat build of Apache Camel for Spring Boot 3","Red Hat build of Apache Camel for Spring Boot 4","Red Hat build of Apicurio Registry 2","Red Hat build of OptaPlanner 8","Red Hat build of Quarkus","streams for Apache Kafka"],"published":"2024-02-19","related":[{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Spring Security authorization rules can be bypassed via forward or include dispatcher types","id":"CVE-2022-31692","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-10-31"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Use after free in systemd-resolved","id":"CVE-2022-2526","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-09-09"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Authorization bypass in Spring Security","id":"CVE-2022-22978","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2022-05-19"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Code injection in Node","id":"CVE-2021-22931","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2021-08-16"},{"cvss_score":9,"headline":"Code injection in Java","id":"CVE-2018-2938","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2018-07-18"},{"cvss_score":8.3,"headline":"Code injection in Java","id":"CVE-2018-2941","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2018-07-18"},{"cvss_score":8.3,"headline":"Code injection in Java","id":"CVE-2018-2942","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2018-07-18"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-10-07","vendors":["Red Hat"]},"summary":"An attacker can exhaust server memory and file limits by rapidly opening and closing connections, causing a denial of service in Undertow.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-1635/"}
