# CVE-2024-2467: Perl-crypt-openssl-rsa: side-channel attack in pkcs#1 v1.5 padding mode (marvin attack)

> A timing side-channel in Perl's RSA library allows attackers to recover plaintext via Bleichenbacher-style attacks, requiring many trial messages.

## What is CVE-2024-2467?

CVE-2024-2467 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, published on 25 Apr 2024. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

A timing-based side-channel flaw exists in the perl-Crypt-OpenSSL-RSA package, which could be sufficient to recover plaintext across a network in a Bleichenbacher-style attack. To achieve successful decryption, an attacker would have to be able to send a large number of trial messages. The vulnerability affects the legacy PKCS#1v1.5 RSA encryption padding mode.

Weakness: CWE-208 (Observable Timing Discrepancy)

Check this codebase for CVE-2024-2467 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2024-2467 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, published on 25 Apr 2024. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-2467 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
