## What is CVE-2024-25126?

CVE-2024-25126 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Debian Debian Linux, published on 28 Feb 2024. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

Rack is a modular Ruby web server interface. Carefully crafted content type headers can cause Rack’s media type parser to take much longer than expected, leading to a possible denial of service vulnerability (ReDos 2nd degree polynomial). This vulnerability is patched in 3.0.9.1 and 2.2.8.1.

Weakness: CWE-1333 (Inefficient Regular Expression Complexity)

## Which versions are affected by CVE-2024-25126?

4 open source packages ship an affected version, including rack. It affects 2 products.

| Package | Ecosystem | Affected | Fixed in |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `rack` | RubyGems | From 0.4 | 2.2.8.1 |
| `rack` | RubyGems | From 0.4 | 2.2.8.1 |
| `rack` | RubyGems | From 3.0.0 | 3.0.9.1 |
| `rack` | RubyGems | From 3.0.0 | 3.0.9.1 |

Products: Debian Debian Linux, Rack Rack.

## How do I fix CVE-2024-25126?

Upgrade rack to a fixed version for your release line: 2.2.8.1 or 3.0.9.1.

## Is CVE-2024-25126 being exploited?

It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2024-25126 exists.

Check this codebase for CVE-2024-25126 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2024-25126 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Debian Debian Linux, published on 28 Feb 2024. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2024-25126 exists.

Affected packages and fixed versions:
- rack (RubyGems): affected from 0.4; fixed in 2.2.8.1
- rack (RubyGems): affected from 0.4; fixed in 2.2.8.1
- rack (RubyGems): affected from 3.0.0; fixed in 3.0.9.1
- rack (RubyGems): affected from 3.0.0; fixed in 3.0.9.1

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
