An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim."},"fix_prompt":"Check this codebase for CVE-2024-31218 and fix it if it is affected.\n\nWhat it is: CVE-2024-31218 is a critical missing authorization vulnerability in webhood-io webhood, published on 5 Apr 2024. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-31218 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: webhood-io webhood. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-31218/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-31218/index.md)","id":"CVE-2024-31218","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-31218/index.md","name":"CVE-2024-31218","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-h533-rxhm-73j2"],"analysis":{"component_type":"web_application","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["privilege_escalation","account_takeover"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"URL scanner","requires_auth":"none","summary":"Unauthenticated attackers can create admin accounts in Webhood deployments lacking existing admins, leading to full system compromise.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"missing_authorization"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":9.8,"severity":"critical","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-306","name":"Missing Authentication for Critical Functionality"}],"description":"Webhood is a self-hosted URL scanner used analyzing phishing and malicious sites. Webhood's backend container images in versions 0.9.0 and earlier are subject to Missing Authentication for Critical Function vulnerability. This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated attacker to send a HTTP request to the database (Pocketbase) admin API to create an admin account. The Pocketbase admin API does not check for authentication/authorization when creating an admin account when no admin accounts have been added. In its default deployment, Webhood does not create a database admin account. Therefore, unless users have manually created an admin account in the database, an admin account will not exist in the deployment and the deployment is vulnerable. Versions starting from 0.9.1 are patched. The patch creates a randomly generated admin account if admin accounts have not already been created i.e. the vulnerability is exploitable in the deployment. As a workaround, users can disable access to URL path starting with `/api/admins` entirely. With this workaround, the vulnerability is not exploitable via network.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":"2026-09-20","github_poc":1,"max_poc_stars":0,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[{"date":"2026-09-20T04:55:20Z","kind":"github_poc","ref":"https://github.com/chandrimanath04-hue/CVE-2024-31218-WEBHOOD-LAB","stars":0,"title":null}],"tier":"poc_unverified"},"has_fix":false,"headline":"Missing Authentication for Critical Function in Webhood backend","id":"CVE-2024-31218","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"missing_authorization","year":"2024"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":2,"next":{"headline":"Discourse-reactions' reaction data and public topic whisper content exposed on reactions given user activity page","id":"CVE-2024-31219"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"@strapi/plugin-upload has a Denial-of-Service via Improper Exception Handling","id":"CVE-2024-31217"},"products":["webhood"],"published":"2024-04-05","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"},{"class":"open","licence":"CC0","name":"PoC-in-GitHub"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"total"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-09-06","vendors":["webhood-io"]},"summary":"Unauthenticated attackers can create admin accounts in Webhood deployments lacking existing admins, leading to full system compromise.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-31218/"}
