## What is CVE-2024-35811?

CVE-2024-35811 is a high-severity use after free vulnerability in Debian Debian Linux, published on 17 May 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: brcmfmac: Fix use-after-free bug in brcmf_cfg80211_detach

This is the candidate patch of CVE-2023-47233 :
https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-47233

In brcm80211 driver,it starts with the following invoking chain
to start init a timeout worker:

->brcmf_usb_probe
  ->brcmf_usb_probe_cb
    ->brcmf_attach
      ->brcmf_bus_started
        ->brcmf_cfg80211_attach
          ->wl_init_priv
            ->brcmf_init_escan
              ->INIT_WORK(&cfg->escan_timeout_work,
		  brcmf_cfg80211_escan_timeout_worker);

If we disconnect the USB by hotplug, it will call
brcmf_usb_disconnect to make cleanup. The invoking chain is :

brcmf_usb_disconnect
  ->brcmf_usb_disconnect_cb
    ->brcmf_detach
      ->brcmf_cfg80211_detach
        ->kfree(cfg);

While the timeout woker may still be running. This will cause
a use-after-free bug on cfg in brcmf_cfg80211_escan_timeout_worker.

Fix it by deleting the timer and canceling the worker in
brcmf_cfg80211_detach.

[arend.vanspriel@broadcom.com: keep timer delete as is and cancel work just before free]

Weakness: CWE-416 (Use After Free)

Check this codebase for CVE-2024-35811 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2024-35811 is a high-severity use after free vulnerability in Debian Debian Linux, published on 17 May 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-35811 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected product: Debian Debian Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
