Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-37904 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- github.com/stacklok/minder (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.0.52\n- github.com/stacklok/minder (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.0.52\n- github.com/stacklok/minder (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.0.52\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-37904/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-37904/index.md)","id":"CVE-2024-37904","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-37904/index.md","name":"CVE-2024-37904","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-hpcg-xjq5-g666","GO-2024-2934"],"analysis":{"component_type":"cloud_service","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Software Supply Chain Platform","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"An attacker can crash the Minder server by instructing it to clone a large malicious Git repository, exhausting memory resources.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":5.7,"severity":"medium","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-400","name":"Uncontrolled Resource Consumption"}],"description":"Minder is an open source Software Supply Chain Security Platform. Minder's Git provider is vulnerable to a denial of service from a maliciously configured GitHub repository. The Git provider clones users repositories using the `github.com/go-git/go-git/v5` library on lines `L55-L89`. The Git provider does the following on the lines `L56-L62`. First, it sets the `CloneOptions`, specifying the url, the depth etc. It then validates the options. It then sets up an in-memory filesystem, to which it clones and Finally, it clones the repository. The `(g *Git) Clone()` method is vulnerable to a DoS attack: A Minder user can instruct Minder to clone a large repository which will exhaust memory and crash the Minder server. The root cause of this vulnerability is a combination of the following conditions: 1. Users can control the Git URL which Minder clones, 2. Minder does not enforce a size limit to the repository, 3. Minder clones the entire repository into memory. This issue has been addressed in commit `7979b43` which has been included in release version v0.0.52. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.","ecosystems":["Go"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Denial of service from maliciously configured Git repository in Minder","id":"CVE-2024-37904","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Go","product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2024"},"n_packages":3,"n_references":4,"next":{"headline":"Improper Access Control and Incorrect Authorization in github.com/goauthentik/authentik","id":"CVE-2024-37905"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.0.52"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/stacklok/minder","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-hpcg-xjq5-g666"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.0.52"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/stacklok/minder","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/stacklok/minder","source":"GHSA-hpcg-xjq5-g666"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.0.52"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/stacklok/minder","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/stacklok/minder","source":"GO-2024-2934"}],"prev":{"headline":"Mastodon has improper authorship check on audience extension for existing posts","id":"CVE-2024-37903"},"products":["minder"],"published":"2024-06-18","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"Go Vulnerability Database","prefix":"GO"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2024-08-02","vendors":["stacklok"]},"summary":"An attacker can crash the Minder server by instructing it to clone a large malicious Git repository, exhausting memory resources.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-37904/"}
