## What is CVE-2024-50098?

CVE-2024-50098 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 5 Nov 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

scsi: ufs: core: Set SDEV_OFFLINE when UFS is shut down

There is a history of deadlock if reboot is performed at the beginning
of booting. SDEV_QUIESCE was set for all LU's scsi_devices by UFS
shutdown, and at that time the audio driver was waiting on
blk_mq_submit_bio() holding a mutex_lock while reading the fw binary.
After that, a deadlock issue occurred while audio driver shutdown was
waiting for mutex_unlock of blk_mq_submit_bio(). To solve this, set
SDEV_OFFLINE for all LUs except WLUN, so that any I/O that comes down
after a UFS shutdown will return an error.

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2024-50098 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2024-50098 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 5 Nov 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-50098 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Linux kernel. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
