What is CVE-2024-52616?

CVE-2024-52616 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, published on 21 Nov 2024. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.

Official description

A flaw was found in the Avahi-daemon, where it initializes DNS transaction IDs randomly only once at startup, incrementing them sequentially after that. This predictable behavior facilitates DNS spoofing attacks, allowing attackers to guess transaction IDs.

Weakness: CWE-334
