## What is CVE-2024-56652?

CVE-2024-56652 is a high-severity use after free vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 27 Dec 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/xe/reg_sr: Remove register pool

That pool implementation doesn't really work: if the krealloc happens to
move the memory and return another address, the entries in the xarray
become invalid, leading to use-after-free later:

	BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in xe_reg_sr_apply_mmio+0x570/0x760 [xe]
	Read of size 4 at addr ffff8881244b2590 by task modprobe/2753

	Allocated by task 2753:
	 kasan_save_stack+0x39/0x70
	 kasan_save_track+0x14/0x40
	 kasan_save_alloc_info+0x37/0x60
	 __kasan_kmalloc+0xc3/0xd0
	 __kmalloc_node_track_caller_noprof+0x200/0x6d0
	 krealloc_noprof+0x229/0x380

Simplify the code to fix the bug. A better pooling strategy may be added
back later if needed.

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2024-56652 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2024-56652 is a high-severity use after free vulnerability in Linux kernel, published on 27 Dec 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-56652 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Linux kernel. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
