It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-58090 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Linux kernel. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-58090/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-58090/index.md)","id":"CVE-2024-58090","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-58090/index.md","name":"CVE-2024-58090","record":{"aliases":["BELL-CVE-2024-58090","DEBIAN-CVE-2024-58090","GHSA-wxjg-w4jc-v7mf","ROOT-OS-UBUNTU-2404-CVE-2024-58090","UBUNTU-CVE-2024-58090"],"analysis":{"component_type":"kernel","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Linux kernel","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"A Linux kernel bug allows rescheduling during interrupt-disabled sections, potentially causing system instability or crashes during kexec operations.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Linux","cpe":[{"product":"linux_kernel","vendor":"linux"}],"cvss":{"score":5.5,"severity":"medium","source":"nvd","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nsched/core: Prevent rescheduling when interrupts are disabled\n\nDavid reported a warning observed while loop testing kexec jump:\n\n  Interrupts enabled after irqrouter_resume+0x0/0x50\n  WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 560 at drivers/base/syscore.c:103 syscore_resume+0x18a/0x220\n   kernel_kexec+0xf6/0x180\n   __do_sys_reboot+0x206/0x250\n   do_syscall_64+0x95/0x180\n\nThe corresponding interrupt flag trace:\n\n  hardirqs last  enabled at (15573): [\u003cffffffffa8281b8e\u003e] __up_console_sem+0x7e/0x90\n  hardirqs last disabled at (15580): [\u003cffffffffa8281b73\u003e] __up_console_sem+0x63/0x90\n\nThat means __up_console_sem() was invoked with interrupts enabled. Further\ninstrumentation revealed that in the interrupt disabled section of kexec\njump one of the syscore_suspend() callbacks woke up a task, which set the\nNEED_RESCHED flag. A later callback in the resume path invoked\ncond_resched() which in turn led to the invocation of the scheduler:\n\n  __cond_resched+0x21/0x60\n  down_timeout+0x18/0x60\n  acpi_os_wait_semaphore+0x4c/0x80\n  acpi_ut_acquire_mutex+0x3d/0x100\n  acpi_ns_get_node+0x27/0x60\n  acpi_ns_evaluate+0x1cb/0x2d0\n  acpi_rs_set_srs_method_data+0x156/0x190\n  acpi_pci_link_set+0x11c/0x290\n  irqrouter_resume+0x54/0x60\n  syscore_resume+0x6a/0x200\n  kernel_kexec+0x145/0x1c0\n  __do_sys_reboot+0xeb/0x240\n  do_syscall_64+0x95/0x180\n\nThis is a long standing problem, which probably got more visible with\nthe recent printk changes. Something does a task wakeup and the\nscheduler sets the NEED_RESCHED flag. cond_resched() sees it set and\ninvokes schedule() from a completely bogus context. The scheduler\nenables interrupts after context switching, which causes the above\nwarning at the end.\n\nQuite some of the code paths in syscore_suspend()/resume() can result in\ntriggering a wakeup with the exactly same consequences. They might not\nhave done so yet, but as they share a lot of code with normal operations\nit's just a question of time.\n\nThe problem only affects the PREEMPT_NONE and PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY scheduling\nmodels. Full preemption is not affected as cond_resched() is disabled and\nthe preemption check preemptible() takes the interrupt disabled flag into\naccount.\n\nCure the problem by adding a corresponding check into cond_resched().","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"sched/core: Prevent rescheduling when interrupts are disabled","id":"CVE-2024-58090","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":"linux:linux_kernel","products":["linux:linux_kernel"],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2024"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":8,"next":{"headline":"drm/fbdev-dma: Add shadow buffering for deferred I/O","id":"CVE-2024-58091"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"btrfs: fix double accounting race when btrfs_run_delalloc_range() failed","id":"CVE-2024-58089"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2025-03-27","related":[{"cvss_score":8.8,"headline":"Linux Kernel Out-of-Bounds Write","id":"CVE-2026-53266","kev_date_added":"2026-09-18","published":"2026-06-25"},{"cvss_score":8.8,"headline":"Linux Kernel Improper Input Validation","id":"CVE-2013-6282","kev_date_added":"2022-09-15","published":"2013-11-19"},{"cvss_score":8.4,"headline":"Linux Kernel Heap-Based Buffer Overflow","id":"CVE-2022-0185","kev_date_added":"2024-08-21","published":"2022-02-11"},{"cvss_score":8.4,"headline":"Linux Kernel Privilege Escalation","id":"CVE-2013-2094","kev_date_added":"2022-09-15","published":"2013-05-14"},{"cvss_score":7.8,"headline":"Linux Kernel Unspecified","id":"CVE-2026-53362","kev_date_added":"2026-08-27","published":"2026-07-04"},{"cvss_score":7.8,"headline":"Linux Kernel Missing Initialization of a Variable","id":"CVE-2026-46300","kev_date_added":"2026-10-28","published":"2026-05-23"},{"cvss_score":7.8,"headline":"Linux Kernel Race Condition","id":"CVE-2025-39964","kev_date_added":"2026-09-18","published":"2025-10-13"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-05-11","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":"A Linux kernel bug allows rescheduling during interrupt-disabled sections, potentially causing system instability or crashes during kexec operations.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2024-58090/"}
