## What is CVE-2024-9355?

CVE-2024-9355 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Red Hat NBDE Tang Server, published on 1 Oct 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

A vulnerability was found in Golang FIPS OpenSSL. This flaw allows a malicious user to randomly cause an uninitialized buffer length variable with a zeroed buffer to be returned in FIPS mode. It may also be possible to force a false positive match between non-equal hashes when comparing a trusted computed hmac sum to an untrusted input sum if an attacker can send a zeroed buffer in place of a pre-computed sum.  It is also possible to force a derived key to be all zeros instead of an unpredictable value.  This may have follow-on implications for the Go TLS stack.

Weakness: CWE-457 (Use of Uninitialized Variable)

Check this codebase for CVE-2024-9355 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2024-9355 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Red Hat NBDE Tang Server, published on 1 Oct 2024. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2024-9355 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected packages and fixed versions:
- github.com/golang-fips/openssl (Go): affected all versions; no fix listed
- github.com/golang-fips/openssl (Go): affected all versions up to 2.0.3; no fix listed
- github.com/golang-fips/openssl (Go): affected all versions up to 2.0.3; no fix listed

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
