## What is CVE-2025-0913?

CVE-2025-0913 is a medium-severity path traversal vulnerability in Golang Go, published on 11 Jun 2025. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

os.OpenFile(path, os.O_CREATE|O_EXCL) behaved differently on Unix and Windows systems when the target path was a dangling symlink. On Unix systems, OpenFile with O_CREATE and O_EXCL flags never follows symlinks. On Windows, when the target path was a symlink to a nonexistent location, OpenFile would create a file in that location. OpenFile now always returns an error when the O_CREATE and O_EXCL flags are both set and the target path is a symlink.

Weakness: CWE-59 (Improper Link Resolution Before File Access)

## Which versions are affected by CVE-2025-0913?

2 open source packages ship an affected version, including golang and stdlib. It affects 1 product.

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2025-0913 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2025-0913 is a medium-severity path traversal vulnerability in Golang Go, published on 11 Jun 2025. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2025-0913 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected packages and fixed versions:
- golang (Bitnami): affected all versions; fixed in 1.23.10, 1.24.4
- stdlib (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 1.23.10, 1.24.4
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
