It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2025-40199 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-40199/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-40199/index.md)","id":"CVE-2025-40199","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-40199/index.md","name":"CVE-2025-40199","record":{"aliases":["BELL-CVE-2025-40199","DEBIAN-CVE-2025-40199","GHSA-79fg-r6v6-prp7","ROOT-OS-DEBIAN-13-CVE-2025-40199","UBUNTU-CVE-2025-40199"],"analysis":{"component_type":"kernel","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Linux kernel","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"A flaw in the Linux kernel page_pool implementation causes system crashes on some 32-bit architectures due to incorrect magic mask handling.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"null_dereference"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":7.8,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\npage_pool: Fix PP_MAGIC_MASK to avoid crashing on some 32-bit arches\n\nHelge reported that the introduction of PP_MAGIC_MASK let to crashes on\nboot on his 32-bit parisc machine. The cause of this is the mask is set\ntoo wide, so the page_pool_page_is_pp() incurs false positives which\ncrashes the machine.\n\nJust disabling the check in page_pool_is_pp() will lead to the page_pool\ncode itself malfunctioning; so instead of doing this, this patch changes\nthe define for PP_DMA_INDEX_BITS to avoid mistaking arbitrary kernel\npointers for page_pool-tagged pages.\n\nThe fix relies on the kernel pointers that alias with the pp_magic field\nalways being above PAGE_OFFSET. With this assumption, we can use the\nlowest bit of the value of PAGE_OFFSET as the upper bound of the\nPP_DMA_INDEX_MASK, which should avoid the false positives.\n\nBecause we cannot rely on PAGE_OFFSET always being a compile-time\nconstant, nor on it always being \u003e0, we fall back to disabling the\ndma_index storage when there are not enough bits available. This leaves\nus in the situation we were in before the patch in the Fixes tag, but\nonly on a subset of architecture configurations. This seems to be the\nbest we can do until the transition to page types in complete for\npage_pool pages.\n\nv2:\n- Make sure there's at least 8 bits available and that the PAGE_OFFSET\n  bit calculation doesn't wrap","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"page_pool: Fix PP_MAGIC_MASK to avoid crashing on some 32-bit arches","id":"CVE-2025-40199","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"null_dereference","year":"2025"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":3,"next":{"headline":"Squashfs: reject negative file sizes in squashfs_read_inode()","id":"CVE-2025-40200"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"ext4: avoid potential buffer over-read in parse_apply_sb_mount_options()","id":"CVE-2025-40198"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2025-11-12","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"total"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-10-15","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":"A flaw in the Linux kernel page_pool implementation causes system crashes on some 32-bit architectures due to incorrect magic mask handling.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-40199/"}
