It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2025-52573 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- ios-simulator-mcp (npm): affected all versions; fixed in 1.3.3\n- ios-simulator-mcp (npm): affected all versions; fixed in 1.3.3\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-52573/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-52573/index.md)","id":"CVE-2025-52573","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-52573/index.md","name":"CVE-2025-52573","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-6f6r-m9pv-67jw"],"analysis":{"component_type":"developer_tool","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["code_execution"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"iOS Simulator MCP Server","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"Attackers can execute arbitrary commands on the host by injecting shell metacharacters into MCP tool arguments via prompt injection.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"command_injection"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":6,"severity":"medium","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-78","name":"Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command"}],"description":"iOS Simulator MCP Server (ios-simulator-mcp) is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for interacting with iOS simulators. Versions prior to 1.3.3 are written in a way that is vulnerable to command injection vulnerability attacks as part of some of its MCP Server tool definition and implementation. The MCP Server exposes the tool `ui_tap` which relies on Node.js child process API `exec` which is an unsafe and vulnerable API if concatenated with untrusted user input. LLM exposed user input for `duration`, `udid`, and `x` and `y` args can be replaced with shell meta-characters like `;` or `\u0026\u0026` or others to change the behavior from running the expected command `idb` to another command. When LLMs are tricked through prompt injection (and other techniques and attack vectors) to call the tool with input that uses special shell characters such as `; rm -rf /tmp;#` and other payload variations, the full command-line text will be interepted by the shell and result in other commands except of `ps` executing on the host running the MCP Server. Version 1.3.3 contains a patch for the issue.","ecosystems":["npm"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Command Injection in MCP Server ios-simulator-mcp","id":"CVE-2025-52573","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"npm","product":null,"products":[],"type":"command_injection","year":"2025"},"n_packages":2,"n_references":4,"next":{"headline":"SysmonElixir path traversal in /read endpoint allows arbitrary file read","id":"CVE-2025-52574"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","fixed":["1.3.3"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"ios-simulator-mcp","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-6f6r-m9pv-67jw"},{"ecosystem":"npm","fixed":["1.3.3"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"ios-simulator-mcp","purl":"pkg:npm/ios-simulator-mcp","source":"GHSA-6f6r-m9pv-67jw"}],"prev":{"headline":"Hikka vulnerable to RCE through dangling web interface","id":"CVE-2025-52572"},"products":["ios-simulator-mcp"],"published":"2025-06-26","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"total"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2025-06-26","vendors":["joshuayoes"]},"summary":"Attackers can execute arbitrary commands on the host by injecting shell metacharacters into MCP tool arguments via prompt injection.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-52573/"}
