An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2025-54472 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Apache bRPC. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-54472/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-54472/index.md)","id":"CVE-2025-54472","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-54472/index.md","name":"CVE-2025-54472","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-fgf7-x5pv-vcc3"],"analysis":{"component_type":"library","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"bRPC Redis parser","requires_auth":"none","summary":"Attackers can crash Apache bRPC services by sending malicious Redis protocol packets that trigger excessive memory allocation.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"apache","cpe":[{"product":"brpc","vendor":"apache"}],"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"high","source":"cisa-adp","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-400","name":"Uncontrolled Resource Consumption"},{"id":"CWE-190","name":"Integer Overflow or Wraparound"}],"description":"Unlimited memory allocation in redis protocol parser in Apache bRPC (all versions \u003c 1.14.1) on all platforms allows attackers to crash the service via network.\n\nRoot Cause: In the bRPC Redis protocol parser code, memory for arrays or strings of corresponding sizes is allocated based on the integers read from the network. If the integer read from the network is too large, it may cause a bad alloc error and lead to the program crashing. Attackers can exploit this feature by sending special data packets to the bRPC service to carry out a denial-of-service attack on it.\nThe bRPC 1.14.0 version tried to fix this issue by limited the memory allocation size, however, the limitation checking code is not well implemented that may cause integer overflow and evade such limitation. So the 1.14.0 version is also vulnerable, although the integer range that affect version 1.14.0 is different from that affect version \u003c 1.14.0.\n\nAffected scenarios: Using bRPC as a Redis server to provide network services to untrusted clients, or using bRPC as a Redis client to call untrusted Redis services.\n\nHow to Fix: we provide two methods, you can choose one of them:\n\n1. Upgrade bRPC to version 1.14.1.\n2. Apply this patch ( https://github.com/apache/brpc/pull/3050 ) manually.\n\nNo matter you choose which method, you should note that the patch limits the maximum length of memory allocated for each time in the bRPC Redis parser. The default limit is 64M. If some of you redis request or response have a size larger than 64M, you might encounter error after upgrade. For such case, you can modify the gflag redis_max_allocation_size to set a larger limit.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":false,"headline":"Apache bRPC: Redis Parser Remote Denial of Service","id":"CVE-2025-54472","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2025"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"File upload in phoca.cz - Phoca Commander for Joomla","id":"CVE-2025-54473"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"NeuVector is shipping cryptographic material into its binary","id":"CVE-2025-54471"},"products":["Apache bRPC"],"published":"2025-08-14","related":[{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Apache bRPC: Remote command injection vulnerability in heap builtin service","id":"CVE-2025-60021","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-01-16"},{"cvss_score":9.8,"headline":"Apache bRPC: ServerOptions.pid_file may cause arbitrary code execution","id":"CVE-2023-31039","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2023-05-08"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"Apache bRPC: Stack Exhaustion via Unbounded Recursion in JSON Parser","id":"CVE-2025-59789","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2025-12-01"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"Apache bRPC: HTTP request smuggling vulnerability","id":"CVE-2024-23452","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2024-02-08"},{"cvss_score":6.1,"headline":"Apache bRPC: The builtin service rpcz page has an XSS attack vulnerability","id":"CVE-2023-45757","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2023-10-16"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2025-11-04","vendors":["Apache Software Foundation"]},"summary":"Attackers can crash Apache bRPC services by sending malicious Redis protocol packets that trigger excessive memory allocation.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-54472/"}
