It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2025-68259 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-68259/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-68259/index.md)","id":"CVE-2025-68259","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-68259/index.md","name":"CVE-2025-68259","record":{"aliases":["AZL-72497","BELL-CVE-2025-68259","DEBIAN-CVE-2025-68259","GHSA-xgvr-xgq4-2mpp","ROOT-OS-DEBIAN-12-CVE-2025-68259","ROOT-OS-DEBIAN-13-CVE-2025-68259","ROOT-OS-UBUNTU-2404-CVE-2025-68259","UBUNTU-CVE-2025-68259"],"analysis":{"component_type":"kernel","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Linux kernel KVM","requires_auth":"high_privilege","summary":"A race condition in KVM SVM allows a local attacker to cause guest kernel panics by triggering incorrect instruction decoding during code patching.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":null,"severity":null,"source":null,"vector":null,"version":null},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nKVM: SVM: Don't skip unrelated instruction if INT3/INTO is replaced\n\nWhen re-injecting a soft interrupt from an INT3, INT0, or (select) INTn\ninstruction, discard the exception and retry the instruction if the code\nstream is changed (e.g. by a different vCPU) between when the CPU\nexecutes the instruction and when KVM decodes the instruction to get the\nnext RIP.\n\nAs effectively predicted by commit 6ef88d6e36c2 (\"KVM: SVM: Re-inject\nINT3/INTO instead of retrying the instruction\"), failure to verify that\nthe correct INTn instruction was decoded can effectively clobber guest\nstate due to decoding the wrong instruction and thus specifying the\nwrong next RIP.\n\nThe bug most often manifests as \"Oops: int3\" panics on static branch\nchecks in Linux guests.  Enabling or disabling a static branch in Linux\nuses the kernel's \"text poke\" code patching mechanism.  To modify code\nwhile other CPUs may be executing that code, Linux (temporarily)\nreplaces the first byte of the original instruction with an int3 (opcode\n0xcc), then patches in the new code stream except for the first byte,\nand finally replaces the int3 with the first byte of the new code\nstream.  If a CPU hits the int3, i.e. executes the code while it's being\nmodified, then the guest kernel must look up the RIP to determine how to\nhandle the #BP, e.g. by emulating the new instruction.  If the RIP is\nincorrect, then this lookup fails and the guest kernel panics.\n\nThe bug reproduces almost instantly by hacking the guest kernel to\nrepeatedly check a static branch[1] while running a drgn script[2] on\nthe host to constantly swap out the memory containing the guest's TSS.\n\n[1]: https://gist.github.com/osandov/44d17c51c28c0ac998ea0334edf90b5a\n[2]: https://gist.github.com/osandov/10e45e45afa29b11e0c7209247afc00b","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"KVM: SVM: Don't skip unrelated instruction if INT3/INTO is replaced","id":"CVE-2025-68259","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2025"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":6,"next":{"headline":"rust_binder: fix race condition on death_list","id":"CVE-2025-68260"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"comedi: multiq3: sanitize config options in multiq3_attach()","id":"CVE-2025-68258"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2025-12-16","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-05-11","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":"A race condition in KVM SVM allows a local attacker to cause guest kernel panics by triggering incorrect instruction decoding during code patching.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-68259/"}
