It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2025-68822 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-68822/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-68822/index.md)","id":"CVE-2025-68822","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-68822/index.md","name":"CVE-2025-68822","record":{"aliases":["AZL-74300","BELL-CVE-2025-68822","DEBIAN-CVE-2025-68822","GHSA-5w2m-pcx5-5834","ROOT-OS-DEBIAN-11-CVE-2025-68822","ROOT-OS-DEBIAN-12-CVE-2025-68822","ROOT-OS-UBUNTU-2204-CVE-2025-68822","ROOT-OS-UBUNTU-2404-CVE-2025-68822","UBUNTU-CVE-2025-68822"],"analysis":{"component_type":"kernel","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["code_execution","privilege_escalation"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Linux kernel driver","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALPS touchpad driver allows local attackers to execute arbitrary code or escalate privileges via a race condition.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"use_after_free"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":7.8,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-416","name":"Use After Free"}],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nInput: alps - fix use-after-free bugs caused by dev3_register_work\n\nThe dev3_register_work delayed work item is initialized within\nalps_reconnect() and scheduled upon receipt of the first bare\nPS/2 packet from an external PS/2 device connected to the ALPS\ntouchpad. During device detachment, the original implementation\ncalls flush_workqueue() in psmouse_disconnect() to ensure\ncompletion of dev3_register_work. However, the flush_workqueue()\nin psmouse_disconnect() only blocks and waits for work items that\nwere already queued to the workqueue prior to its invocation. Any\nwork items submitted after flush_workqueue() is called are not\nincluded in the set of tasks that the flush operation awaits.\nThis means that after flush_workqueue() has finished executing,\nthe dev3_register_work could still be scheduled. Although the\npsmouse state is set to PSMOUSE_CMD_MODE in psmouse_disconnect(),\nthe scheduling of dev3_register_work remains unaffected.\n\nThe race condition can occur as follows:\n\nCPU 0 (cleanup path)     | CPU 1 (delayed work)\npsmouse_disconnect()     |\n  psmouse_set_state()    |\n  flush_workqueue()      | alps_report_bare_ps2_packet()\n  alps_disconnect()      |   psmouse_queue_work()\n    kfree(priv); // FREE | alps_register_bare_ps2_mouse()\n                         |   priv = container_of(work...); // USE\n                         |   priv-\u003edev3 // USE\n\nAdd disable_delayed_work_sync() in alps_disconnect() to ensure\nthat dev3_register_work is properly canceled and prevented from\nexecuting after the alps_data structure has been deallocated.\n\nThis bug is identified by static analysis.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Input: alps - fix use-after-free bugs caused by dev3_register_work","id":"CVE-2025-68822","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"use_after_free","year":"2025"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":4,"next":{"headline":"ublk: fix deadlock when reading partition table","id":"CVE-2025-68823"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"fuse: fix readahead reclaim deadlock","id":"CVE-2025-68821"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2026-01-13","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"total"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-10-21","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":"A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALPS touchpad driver allows local attackers to execute arbitrary code or escalate privileges via a race condition.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-68822/"}
