An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2025-69203 exists.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- signalk-server (npm): affected all versions; fixed in 2.19.0\n- signalk-server (npm): affected all versions; fixed in 2.19.0\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-69203/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-69203/index.md)","id":"CVE-2025-69203","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-69203/index.md","name":"CVE-2025-69203","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-vfrf-vcj7-wvr8"],"analysis":{"component_type":"server_software","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["privilege_escalation","account_takeover"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Marine data server","requires_auth":"none","summary":"Attackers can spoof IP addresses and device names to trick administrators into granting elevated access permissions via social engineering.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"auth_bypass"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"signal_k_server","vendor":"signalk"}],"cvss":{"score":6.3,"severity":"medium","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-290","name":"Authentication Bypass by Spoofing"}],"description":"Signal K Server is a server application that runs on a central hub in a boat. Versions prior to 2.19.0 of the access request system have two related features that when combined by themselves and with an information disclosure vulnerability enable convincing social engineering attacks against administrators. When a device creates an access request, it specifies three fields: `clientId`, `description`, and `permissions`. The SignalK admin UI displays the `description` field prominently to the administrator when showing pending requests, but the actual `permissions` field (which determines the access level granted) is less visible or displayed separately. This allows an attacker to request `admin` permissions while providing a description that suggests readonly access. The access request handler trusts the `X-Forwarded-For` HTTP header without validation to determine the client's IP address. This header is intended to preserve the original client IP when requests pass through reverse proxies, but when trusted unconditionally, it allows attackers to spoof their IP address. The spoofed IP is displayed to administrators in the access request approval interface, potentially making malicious requests appear to originate from trusted internal network addresses. Since device/source names can be enumerated via the information disclosure vulnerability, an attacker can impersonate a legitimate device or source, craft a convincing description, spoof a trusted internal IP address, and request elevated permissions, creating a highly convincing social engineering scenario that increases the likelihood of administrator approval. Users should upgrade to version 2.19.0 to fix this issue.","ecosystems":["npm"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"weaponised"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Signal K Server Vulnerable to Access Request Spoofing","id":"CVE-2025-69203","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"npm","product":null,"products":[],"type":"auth_bypass","year":"2025"},"n_packages":2,"n_references":2,"next":{"headline":"ImageMagick converting a malicious MVG file to SVG caused an integer overflow.","id":"CVE-2025-69204"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","fixed":["2.19.0"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"signalk-server","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-vfrf-vcj7-wvr8"},{"ecosystem":"npm","fixed":["2.19.0"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"signalk-server","purl":"pkg:npm/signalk-server","source":"GHSA-vfrf-vcj7-wvr8"}],"prev":{"headline":"axios-cache-interceptor Vulnerable to Cache Poisoning via Ignored HTTP Vary Header","id":"CVE-2025-69202"},"products":["signalk-server"],"published":"2026-01-01","related":[{"cvss_score":10,"headline":"RCE - Command Injection in Signal K set-system-time plugin","id":"CVE-2026-23515","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-02-02"},{"cvss_score":9.7,"headline":"Signal K Server has Unauthenticated State Pollution leading to Remote Code Execution (RCE)","id":"CVE-2025-66398","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-01-01"},{"cvss_score":9.4,"headline":"signalk-server: Privilege Escalation by Admin Role Injection via /enableSecurity","id":"CVE-2026-33950","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-04-02"},{"cvss_score":9.1,"headline":"Signal K Server vulnerable to JWT Token Theft via WebSocket Enumeration and Unauthenticated Polling","id":"CVE-2025-68620","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-01-01"},{"cvss_score":8.7,"headline":"Signal K Server's WebSocket Login Endpoint Lacks Rate Limiting (Credential Brute-Force)","id":"CVE-2026-41893","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-05-09"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"Signal K Server has an Unauthenticated Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) via WebSocket Subscription Paths","id":"CVE-2026-39320","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-04-21"},{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"Signal K Server Vulnerable to Denial of Service via Unrestricted Access Request Flooding","id":"CVE-2025-68272","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-01-01"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"poc","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-01-02","vendors":["SignalK"]},"summary":"Attackers can spoof IP addresses and device names to trick administrators into granting elevated access permissions via social engineering.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2025-69203/"}
