## What is CVE-2026-0964?

CVE-2026-0964 is a medium-severity path traversal vulnerability in Redhat Enterprise Linux, published on 26 Mar 2026. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.

### Official description

A malicious SCP server can send unexpected paths that could make the
client application override local files outside of working directory.
This could be misused to create malicious executable or configuration
files and make the user execute them under specific consequences.

This is the same issue as in OpenSSH, tracked as CVE-2019-6111.

Weakness: CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory)

## Which versions are affected by CVE-2026-0964?

It affects 4 products.

Products: Libssh Libssh, Redhat Enterprise Linux, Redhat Hardened Images, Redhat Openshift Container Platform.

## How do I fix CVE-2026-0964?

Apply the vendor's patch.

## Is CVE-2026-0964 being exploited?

There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-0964 in the wild and no public exploit code.

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2026-0964 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2026-0964 is a medium-severity path traversal vulnerability in Redhat Enterprise Linux, published on 26 Mar 2026. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-0964 in the wild and no public exploit code.
Affected product: Redhat Enterprise Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
