What is CVE-2026-100229?
CVE-2026-100229 is a medium-severity memory corruption vulnerability in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, published on 14 Oct 2026. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.
Official description
A flaw was found in GStreamer's H.266 codec parser library (libgstcodecparsers). An out-of-bounds write vulnerability exists in the DCI parsing function, where a reserved field value is incorrectly accepted, causing the parser to write beyond the bounds of an internal structure. An attacker could exploit this by providing a specially crafted H.266 bitstream to a third-party application that uses this library API, potentially causing a crash or memory corruption. No standard GStreamer pipeline element currently invokes the affected code path.
Weakness: CWE-787
Which versions are affected by CVE-2026-100229?
How do I fix CVE-2026-100229?
No fix has been published for CVE-2026-100229 yet. Limit exposure of the affected software until one is available.
Upgrade to the fixed version. Memory-safe languages, compiler hardening and fuzzing prevent most new cases. More about Memory corruption.
Is CVE-2026-100229 being exploited?
