What is CVE-2026-104041?

CVE-2026-104041 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, published on 6 Oct 2026. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

Official description

A flaw was found in SSSD. An unprivileged local user can repeatedly request lookups for nonexistent entries through the Name Service Switch (NSS) responder. Because the negative cache does not limit the total number of stored entries and only removes expired records when an existing key is rechecked, the cache can grow without bound. This behavior can lead to memory exhaustion, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) as the responder becomes unresponsive or terminates.

Weakness: CWE-770

Which versions are affected by CVE-2026-104041?

How do I fix CVE-2026-104041?

No fix has been published for CVE-2026-104041 yet. Limit exposure of the affected software until one is available.

Upgrade, then put limits on request size, rate and nesting depth so one client cannot exhaust the service. More about Denial of service.

Is CVE-2026-104041 being exploited?

It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2026-104041 exists.
